Here's the projected starting lineup for the Tigers on opening night:
Center field: Leon Landry
Shortstop: D.J. LeMahieu
Left field: Blake Dean
Catcher: Micah Gibbs
First Base: Sean Ochinko
Right field: Jared Mitchell
Second base: Ryan Schimpf
Third base: Derek Helenihi
DH undecided but spot could be filled by
true freshman Mikie Mahtook
Starting pitcher: Louis Coleman
Coleman will go to the bullpen for the rest of the season, but Mainieri said he will get the opening night start because as a senior he has earned it. Plus, Mainieri said he wants an experienced pitcher to pitch the first game at the new Box.

Villanova opens the 2009 season … a three-game series against Southeastern Conference foe Louisiana State. The Tigers, one of college baseball's top programs, played in the College World Series last season and will open a new stadium in its series against the Wildcats. The last two series Villanova has played against SEC opponents (Florida in 2005, Alabama in 2007) have each resulted in the Wildcats winning the opening game of a three-game series.

Illinois junior shortstop Brandon Wikoff (Peoria, Ill.) was named to the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award watch list … Wikoff is Illinois' top returning offensive player after hitting .369 with a team-best 61 RBIs in 2008 to earn second-team All-Big Ten honors. He also hit .362 with 37 RBIs in Big Ten play, the third-most RBIs in a conference season in school history. He slugged .458 and stole 11-of-12 bases a year ago, and fielded at a .960 rate, making him the top shortstop in the Big Ten both offensively and defensively.

Oh yeah!!! Wikoff is a beast! I can't wait for that series.

Starting lineup for the Tigers is about as anyone would have predicted.
