Yeah, that is a good point, but at that point in the game, he really just needed to run the play that was called. We were up 52-3, not 7-3, where we needed a play like that. At least that is how I think CLM is looking at it.

    He's taking a knee,
    He's taking it twice,
    I can't believe he's
    taking it thrice.
    Nutt is looking just like
    a clown...

    We've beaten Ole Miss,
    by forty-nine,
    Their worst home loss,
    since the beginning of time,
    Nutt is looking just like
    a clown...

Well, Nutt understood the gesture. Ole Miss just ran the ball up the gut blandly to end the game rather than making a serious attempt to score.

    Where is that big smile,
All we see now is a frown.

Course we know he would smile if he could,
Too bad for him that this time MILES BROUGHT THE WOOD.

Let's see. I'm a quarterback, and I've been sitting on the bench all year. I finally get into a game. I get up to the line and instinctively read the defense, just like I've been coached to do all of my life, and certainly this year. I see a weakness in the defensive alignment and check into another running play. It works beautifully and I score.

Where in this scenario is there any room to criticize Mett. You just as soon criticize the lion for overtaking the slow footed antelope. I understand what Miles did, but I sure as hell understand what Mett did, and given the need for a competitor in that position, would probably have been disappointed if he hadn't done it. And, unlike my wife, I don't like running up the score.

No joke! A thinking quarterback...what a refreshing thought.

Not disagreeing with that from Mett's perspective. But the HC has to see the big picture, and CLM does not like to rub it in opposing coaches noses. Mett did not necessarily do anything wrong, but he was being a bit more aggressive than he needed to be in that scenario. Probably just excited about being in the game, read the D like you say, and instinctively responded. Nothing inherently wrong about that, just a bit rubbing in your nose in a big loss if you are on Ole Miss' sideline.

btw, this was the most lopsided score in over 100 years that these 2 teams have met.

I doubt that Mett thought he would score from that far out. Probably didn't even think about it. Just called up the best running play available. (Undoubtedly under strict orders not to pass.)

Again, I have no quarrel with Miles decision. Just anybody having a problem with Mett is crazy.
