Now that the RP situation is over, here are my questions on recruiting. Should we take another QB in this recruting class? Is their another QB who would are strongly considering? With Shepard and Garret, should we take another QB with a strong arm who can run? Cody Green or Morgan Newton
RP leaving doesn't make a difference to this year's recruiting class. The projection was that RP would have played 2 seasons, the QBs in this class would have been redshirted and and then competed going into the 2010 season. So 2010 would look like: Lee - Junior Jefferson - Sophomore (outside shot he doesn't RS and is a Junior at this point) Shepard - RSFR (could play as a FR and be a Sophomore at this point) Garrett - RSFR Do you really see us needing a 5th guy in this mix? Of course not. That is the best 4 deep LSU has ever had in it's history at QB (from purely a recruiting standpoint).
3 out of 4 of those guys you mentioned has played a down of football for LSU, so taking a 3rd QB in this recruiting class isnt out of the question.
Trust me on this one, it's out of the question. I thought my logic was quite clear that RP's leaving has absolutely no effect on this class. Now you can say that in hindsight LSU should have recruited another quality QB in the same class as Lee if we thought RP would flake out on us. That's the much bigger question.
Im sorry, but if it was me, i would consider taking another QB, thats my logic. Your logic isnt that clear to me, because Shep could be playing WR in the future.
I will try this one more time. Let's take the 2008 season, for example. Whomever we recruit this year will be recruited for the 2009 season (2 QBs, 3 QBs, 15 QBs, whatever). So what would have been RP's junior season will be taken over by the 3 QBs we currently have (Lee, Hatch, Jefferson). So the question is the 2009 season. QBs very rarely start in their freshman season (very few exceptions). We will still have Lee (So.), Hatch (Sr.) and Jefferson (RSFR or So.) once again for the 2009 season. With another season under Lee, Hatch and Jefferson's collective belts, one of these will be our starter for the 09 season. The chances of a 3rd QB we recruit (as you propose) starting as a pure freshman in the 09 season are between 0 and negative infinity. Maybe you can explain how you think it will matter.
