I get the disappointment and share the disappointment. That said, some fan and media reaction borders on hysteria. It would be stupid to fire Les now. Let the season unfold and decide in the Nov-Dec time frame. Not saying I expect this, but I would NOT be surprised if LSU wins out. Some fans and media (looking at you Ron Higgins) are going to look very foolish if LSU wins out. Lets take a look at where we are. Lost to Wisconsin on the road due to a freak end of game play (Tigers win in that scenario 9 of 10 times). Was that Wisconsin team terrible? No, we now know they are a solid top 10 team. Road loss to a top 10 team merits hysteria? Hmmm. More disappointing was seeing the same dreadful passing game after the fan base was pumped up for a more wide open offense. Lost to a HIGHLY motivated Auburn team on the road, again in a Freak ending. From Gus being on the hotseat, Auburn having a chance to salvage their season, to Auburn wanting revenge for last year's embarrassment inflicted by Fournette--not surprising fired up Auburn played a good game. LSU did not lay an egg--the Tigers played hard. Perfect? Hell no, but respectable and no reason to hang their heads. Tigers had some very bad bounces yesterday, especially in the 4th. It happens. Ball slipping out of Ettling's hands? One of those days. New QB's first game on the road vs a fired up team and crowd. So, disappointing start to the season? Yes. The offense has issues, but is showing signs of life and new plays. The new plays aren't all working, but hey, NEW PLAYS! Too soon to write LSU off. The team is playing hard, is talented and can win out. Lets see how the year plays out. Last note--terrible coverage by ESPN. Numerous times during the game I was waiting for an instant replay that never came. It was like the game was being televised by a skeleton crew on a 100$ budget.
No it would not. The season is already in the tank. Can his ass along with Cam and you have LOTS of time to woo his successor. Waiting is the absolute worst thing they could do.
Maybe getting our wish Source: Changes to LSU staff, including Les Miles and Cam Cameron, could come early as Monday http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_53f1a66a-8357-11e6-9401-c7a5b0a63245.html
Hopefully the administration is starting the 'wooing' now in quiet, subtle ways. But it is unrealistic to expect another coach to come out and say they want to come to LSU this early in the season. So I do not see what good firing Les now would do but further hurt recruiting.
I disagree that the season is in the tank. Smart is to work quietly in the background, far away from the media and media leaks, and position LSU to make a smart, quick hire if LSU doesn't turn it around. The hope of beating Bama, discovering a passing game and winning the SEC championship game may be on life support, but it ain't dead yet.
No way Les Miles of the most interesting figures in the sport out runs or hides from the pressure and scrutiny of the media. The dark cloud is looming and the media will be here every step of the way.
