We all know you only have to win by one point. When baseball wins by one run, we pound our chests and congratulate our players. When football goes on the longest road trip in our history to open the season and wins a game, we contemplate suicide. One of our favorite Tiger Forums posters nearly popped more than one vein in his anger. I know we all have high hopes and expectations for our new football season. I know I do. But a win on the road is nothing to sneeze at. Sure, we've got some things that need work - but seeing them early is probably better for us than stomping on Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow, running up huge numbers and NOT seeing them. I think our coaching staff and team learned a lot more about themselves than, say, Florida learned. Or even Kentucky. Or any of our sister SEC schools who wreaked havoc on a cupcake, many of them at their home stadiums. Besides all that, WE WON. Months from now, we'll reap the benefits of having been tested - and coming out on top. We'll play our share of lesser teams and put up some gaudy numbers, but we all know the only number that really matters is the one in the "W" column. It's a game, y'all. It is also the center of my universe - Tiger Football, that is. I live for the season - then I live for each game and enjoy every play. Some more than others, to be sure. I love when we win; I cry when we lose. But I don't agonize over a win. Sure, the Tigers could have looked better. They always can look better. But we WON. On the road. In our opener. Against a team that was fired up beyond belief and had a lot more athletic talent than we expected. The Tigers did not perform at their highest level - for whatever reason - and we still WON. I'm looking forward to next Saturday. And I'm HOPING to see a lot of improvement. But as long as the Tigers win, I'm a winner - and so are you. I don't know about you folks, but I could've used about a pound of Valium before the game. This was a long, long off season. And now, Tiger Football is back. And I, for one, plan to savor it. Game by game by game. And as long as we're winning, I won't complain....much. GEAUX TIGERS! AND GEAUX TIGER FANS!
I understand everything you are saying. And I do agree LSU is way better off this year playing in a hostile environment vs a BCS conference team than playing at home vs a cupcake like last year. It will pay dividends. We will need to see what happens vs Vandy. It will probably tell a lot about how this season will end up. Let's all hope the first 27 minutes of the 2nd half vs Washington is what we will see most times out on that football field. If that's the case, we will have a special season. The 3 things I am looking forward to seeing improve: 1. Charles Scott running the ball and our running game in general 2. The defense putting pressure on the QB and being more stout and consistent vs the run 3. Helton's punting
