the media has been bringing this one up a little bit, so I figured we'd discuss... Just curious to see how this goes as he is about to pass Chris Carter for 2nd most TD receptions of all time. To me, it's a no-brainer as he is the most dominant WR of this generation (the 2000s). Every team he has ever been on has not only been good, but they have contended for titles. He has an outside shot (if he plays until he is 42-43 like Rice) to maybe catch Jerry's record. And with the condition he keeps his body, it is entirely possible.
I'm not a fan, but there's no doubt he'll be in the HOF. As far as breaking Rice's records, there's almost no way. Comparing their numbers through their first 12 seasons (although TO stil has 5 games left this year): Rice: 16,377 yards/154 TD's (188 games/ 87.11 YPG) Owens: 12,743 yards/126 TD's (168 games/ 75.85 YPG) Not only would TO have to keep up with the amazing pace that Rice kept late into his career, but he would also have to make up for being behind almost 4,000 yards and 30 TD's. Too much, even if he stays healthy. Just for comparison, Randy Moss through 10 seasons (with 6 games left still in this season): Moss: 11,752 yards/117 TD's (148 games/ 79.4 YPG) Through 12 seasons (5 left this year) Marvin Harrison: Harrison: 13,944 yards/123 TD's (175 games/ 79.68 YPG) Through 9 seasons (6 left this year) Tory Holt: Holt: 11,430 yards/69 TD's (136 games/ 84.04 YPG) I think Moss depends too much on his amazing physical abilities to be able to sustain those numbers late into his career. Once he begins to break down, the production will drop off quickly. The same for TO to a certain extent. Torry Holt and Harrison are a little different. They are both very smart receivers who run exceptional routes and have great hands. Their styles are more conducive to being productive in their later years (although we may be witnessing the beginning of Harrison's career being derailed by injuries). IMO Holt has been one of the most underrated, underappreciated players in all of football over his career. He is a FANTASTIC receiver and the only one with a legit chance at catching Rice in total yardage (he has no prayer at catching him in TD's). ***It's amazing that Moss essentially disappeared for 3 seasons and is still in the class of these other receivers statistically. Imagine if he had played with a great QB his entire career...Wow!***
clair, I don't watch NFL but just wanted to congratulate you on your team doing well. I grew up really not liking the Cowboys and ended up with a father-in-law who LOVES them.......just my luck. :hihi: The little I follow, TO, imo, is the Kobe Bryant of NBA. Despite his talent, hard to like cause of his individualism. I don't think it should be factored in on whether or not he's deserving of Hall of Fame, just saying. May have to watch the Green Bay game to see how Dallas' defense does against BF- should be a good game, you must be glad it's in Dallas.
Don't you have to be, like, a decent human being* or something to get in there? *As opposed to an arrogant, narcissistic a-hole.
I think that would void about 40% of the candidates. :hihi: Of course I think he's a HoF receiver. He's definitely cementing his status this year, assuming he keeps this up for another year or two. He and Romo have good chemistry generally, so he's got another two or three strong years left. His TD numbers are unbelievable, especially given how much some WRs struggle to get in the endzone, even with great overall numbers. Moss should go in as well, if he plays well in NE for a couple of years. I think people will forgive his two year jail term with the Raiders. He's not half the blocker that TO is, and he does like to take plays off -- but he's still the most dominant WR in the history of the game (excluding Rice) at any given time.
I dont like the cowboys and never liked Terrell "loud mouth who never knows when to shut the hell up" Owens, but that doesnt mean he is not a great player. Its a no brainer that he should be a hall of famer, but the best in the game? I dont know about that. If it had been some other time, maybe so. But with a guy named Randy Moss out there, its not even close. Randy Moss is the most talented WR to ever play the game, and possibly that will ever play the game. His talent is insane, he's not even human.
