Eighteen Tulane football players may have contracted the swine flu and are being treated for it according to this NOLA.com article.
Flu-like outbreak puts Tulane football scrimmage in doubt - NOLA.com

Man, something like that could change the football landscape of the SEC and have national implications...more so than any hurricane that could cause rescheduled games. Something like this could knock key players out at the wrong time and destroy their conditioning when they return !!

I sure hope that LSU players are taking precautions...wash your hands guys !!!

(maybe gumborue could send us a strain of the virus so we could send some "fan mail" to Tebow and the Gators .)

Seriously though, experts are predicting that this fall the H1N1 virus will be much more widespread than it was last spring when the outbreak began. Everyone should avoid contracting the flu by maintaining strict hygiene. In the cafe I have several containers of mild disinfecting bleach solutions with side towels soaking in them at everyone's station so that we can all easily and frequently disinfect our hands and food prep surfaces very often through the day. Be aware of what precautions you can personally take.

My daughters and I caught the swine flu in June. It wasn't nearly as bad as the regular flu. We were all better about 2 days after contracting it and felt pretty good after the short-lived fever broke.

That was just our experience, though.

that's pretty much everyone's experience that I know.

Less dangerous as the real flu, but much more easily spread is what I've been told by doctors.

greenie told me that only two of the kids have confirmed cases of swine flu. the rest have the sniffles and are being kept away from the rest of the team until they have been sympton free for 24 hours.

he also said something about duke was reporting not long ago (maybe a month? cant remember) that half of their team had the swine flu. which brought up the question, what do do you when that happens? even if it isnt half, but 18. seems that playing the game would be out. if other team members have been exposed, are carrying it, but dont yet have symptoms, do you really want them playing as contagious as it is? do you treat it like a hurricane and reschedule?

More than likely the 18 all had it.

Only 2 were confirmed, but they didn't even send the other 16 for confirmation, because it costs $400 a pop for the test, so as long as they are being treated and are getting better (which they are), then who cares if that's what they really had?! -- especially for a school that's broke anyway.

Influenza really destroys your stamina. Glad to hear it's not real severe like the last flu I got... I was sick for more than 10 days and was still real weak 6 months later.

By the way, I was one of the first people to have West Nile virus. I had painful upper body rash on the back and arms for several weeks...my doctor thought it was shingles. When the news about West Nile came out, he called me and told me I had the classic symptoms for it.

The epicenter for West Nile was the Covington area. I told the doctor that I found a dead Blue Jay in my back yard and threw it in the garbage. Evidently birds are a vector in the disease.
