Reading Yahoo (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/murray-leads-no-9-georgia-233637591--ncaaf.html) and comments were complimentary of the game, UGA, and LSU. It was a hell of a game. I remember being embarassed by UGA in the past - that was not the case in this loss. Our defense looked awful, but UGA has one of the better offenses in the nation, I believe. I'm proud of the effort we put up, particularly considering we lost so much on D after last year. Come on Chief, we can win a NC if you can get your guys coached up.
Indeed on many points. May seem so but we're 2 and 3 in the last 5 there. Last time they came to Tiger Stadium we took a 38-52 point shellacking. Love the thread though. Could be much worse. South Carolina struggled with UCF and when I heard "Tenneessee holds on against South Alabama" I lmfao. We lost by 3 points to the #6 team in the country.
And with an offense the last two years we'd have been NCs twice thanks to chiefs defense. Perspective guys. Our defense has carried us for years and I think last year was the culmination of players being TIRED of it. I think the mass exodus on defense last year falls some on amazing talent but I think a good chunk falls on Miles and his insistence on keeping subpar offensive coordinators for so many years. We are reaping those decisions now. It's going to take a year or two to reload when you lose that many players. The good news is keep Cam and Chief in place and I think in two years we're hoisting a trophy.
I think Miles has made some pretty good decisions on the oc's. Crowton helped us win a championship and then was pushed out when he couldn't make the offense work well with subpar qb's. He hired Krags then got stuck with having to promote Stud since Krags got diagnosed so close to the beginning of the season. I do believe he likely wishes he had made a change before last season but then again he would not have gotten Cam. So I'll take what we have and look forward to the next couple of years till Cam gets another head coaching gig. Then we'll have another opportunity to bring in someone else. And pray that guy is just as good.
In fairness to Coach Miles, he did hire an OC in Kragthorpe that was pretty well received but never got to do it.
The thing that pisses me off is that I don't think our backup QBs are developed well enough (Lee and Jefferson were mishandled and I see the same crap this season). We're going to likely struggle next year by not giving backups valuable playing time this year. Unless Cameron is just that good.
Cam's making good money, real good money. I hear that he likes it here and has settled in well. His kids are at a good age. He like the stability at LSU, who know where it takes him, I see him enjoying the ride. Enjoy him while you can, he is the best OC LSU has ever had. Like I said, knowing what to call and when to call it, thats what sets Cam apart. Chief is rebuilding his defense, the best part, Cam knows he has to put points on the board and can do it. Just because Mett leaves after this year, I would worry, Cam still has a bunch to work with next year. Like I said, I can't see many kids turning down a chance to play under Cam in his offense. Mett at the start of the season was thought to be a mid round pick in the Draft, thanks to Cam, hes moving up the charts. Enjoy the season folks, still got a ways to go.
The people at a&m that I know thought he would return to take over the OC job, things work out for a reason.
I wouldn't worry. If you see whats being done in practice and whats being told to me. Cam knows what hes doing. How often do you see the backup QB in a Pro game? Wait, whos the backup QB's at a&m, bama, uga, etc., can you name them? If you see the backup QB at most teams, its because the starter is injured or they are not winning games and the coach wants to try someone else. A year under Cam, the kid will be just fine.
I actually think Rivers still has a shot after a full year under Cam. His brother sure had nice things to say about him.
