http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/...ll-coach-pat-summitt-steps-down-at-tennessee/ Will Caldwell be on the short list?
Holly Warlick has already been given the job. But she's about 3 or 4 years away from retirement herself. That's when we'll lose Caldwell.
Withouth question she is a legend in NCAA sports and deserves ALL the accolades she can get. She will be missed. I am no VOL fan but you cannot ignore or deny greatness.
I have always admired and respected that program. Pat Summitt has to be one of the greatest basketball coaches...men or women, college or pro.
Warlick is 53, so she'll probably coach another 10 years at Tennessee, assuming their program is doing well under her and she stays in good health. and if their program isn't doing well, and our program is, Caldwell would likely stay here rather than leave to rebuild Tennessee also, Caldwell isn't the only candidate out there that Tennessee would be interested in should they need a new head coach. if Tennessee is still a perennial powerhouse by the next time they need a new head coach, a ton of head coaches are going to want that job... whether they have history with Tennessee or not and just looking at the coaches that have history with Tennessee, there are 15 current NCAA women's coaches that played or coached under Summitt, including Caldwell. and that's not counting all the assistant coaches and future coaches that played or coached under Summitt of the current head coaches, some that are currently doing pretty good are: Niya Butts, head coach at Arizona -- a 4-year varsity letterman at Tennessee before spending 7 years as an asst head coach, including at Michigan State (1 year) then Kentucky (6 years) Kelly Harper, head coach at NC State -- a 4-year varsity letterman at Tennessee as head coach of Western Carolina, she led them to the NCAAT twice, and had three straight 20-win seasons over her last 3 years Jody Adams, head coach at Wichita State -- a 4-year varsity letterman at Tennessee before entering coaching in 1994 (she's coached at Auburn, Wake Forest, Minnesota, etc) Matthew Mitchell, head coach at Kentucky -- began his coaching career at Tennessee under Summitt, he's currently only 41 years old and he's been 114-56 as head coach of Kentucky, including three straight 25-win seasons and three straight NCAAT appearances over the last 3 years (including 2 Elite Eights) and of the current assistant coaches, some that are going to be on Tennessee's short list are: the two most recent assistants under Summit, along with Warlick... Lockwood and Demoss... Dean Lockwood -- currently entering his 9th year as assistant coach at Tennessee under Summit, also previously served 6 years as assitant coach for Tennessee's mens basketball team Mickie DeMoss -- served 20 years as assistant coach at Tennessee under Summit, up until recently when she took a job as the assistant coach of the WNBA's Indiana Fever, also former women's head coach at the University of Florida and the University of Kentucky, former asst head coach at Auburn, etc and then a ton of other assistant coaches like Nikki McCray, assistant coach for South Carolina (since 2008), who was a 4-year varsity letterman at Tennessee before entering coaching in 2006
