One of my regular customers was actually an All American at Tulane in the 80's. Offensive guard who graduated the season before they went undefeated and went on to play for the saints a couple of years...a real big dude who is still in shape. He was trying to mess with me at the cafe...he asked me..."Steve, if you really thought you'd get accepted would you have actually applied to get in Tulane? I said "NO!" His wife just beamed and said...."right on Steve!!" (She is an LSU alum !!!!!!:hihi:.)
i have nothing personal against tulane. other than some of their fans can be a bit snippy, others downright arrogant and holier than thou, and their baseball coach has personally shown to me he can be a real ass. i dont profess a great love for the school, but i am not gonna bash them at every given chance. (ok, so i may bash a particular greenie at every given chance, but that is another story.) the only school in louisiana i would like to see sucked down the drain is u-la-la.
I'm an LSU fan first and foremost, but if LSU isn't playing them I pull for my local (New Orleans) team - didn't know I was in the closet though! I'll tell me wife.
It's all relative - compared to LSU, Tulane's football team has been awful for sure. Compared to the previous Tulane teams (pre-current coach, in other words), I get the feeling that they are an improved team, even if they went 2-10 last season. But we should be focused on LSU here! Can't wait for the season to start!!!
and my biggest problem with tulane is that they try to mix academics with athletics. who cares if your school's better in some kind of uber-specialized something or another, if you can't compete ON THE FIELD, shut your trap. this ain't no spellin' bee. for the record, i don't think that a tulane education is any better than one from LSU or even vanderbilt for that matter. this is football, not quantum physics.
We should play Tulane, La Tech, and Monroe as far as in-state schools, IMO. We should drop The University of Lafayette Louisiana.
