The personal fouls were rediculous in the 2nd half... especially the kicking the ball off the field. After the call, the camera focused in on him on the sidelines and the stadium basically started cheering as if to say "thank you". The PI calls and the false starts and holding calls are killing us when we start moving the ball. We don't momentum on our side a lot of the time on these drives, and then we go ahead and help our oppenants out by negating big yard gains by stupid stupid penalties. WTF is going on? Is it me or did LSU just break down the 4th qtr. How we go from holding to 4th and 29... to allowing them a FG in one drive. Then give up additional stupid penalties to allow them a TD with only 20'some seconds left.
Well, obviously, that is what costs us the game - penalties. Having said that, it is no different than what we saw in the Saban era. We always led the league (and possibly nation) in penalties/mistakes, etc. The difference is that we managed to overcome them, and we haven't several times this year in games we should have won. We also won some we should have lost, and we lost some games secondary to playcalling, defensive schemes, etc., so there are other reasons for some of the losses, too. Certainly, penalties and mistakes are frustrating and disappointing, but they are part of the college game in every program and cost every team at some point in a season.
It almost seems as if our D is content on giving up 10-15 yards a play on penalties then give up big chunks of yardage getting burned on plays. Totally rediculous and shows an EXTREME lack of coaching ability on the defensive coaches side of the ball.
This game was unacceptable and the team basically fell apart on Miles. If he doesn't right the ship during the offseason and next season, I don't see how we keep him. We've ended this season in a downward spiral and there isn't really a point in this season I can say we actually looked good. This loss to Arkansas was really the perfect end to a terrible season. He made the right call with Perilloux, but it seems as if losing Perilloux caused the entire team to crumble. I thought LSU reloaded... this was not a reloading year, it was a rebuilding one.
Don't forget the holding call on LaFell when JJ ran for 20 yards late in the 4th quarter. What a dumb penalty that was. Cost us a first down inside the 40.:angry:
Get real. No one replaces a coach with a record like Miles. This is just ridiculous. All we need is a quarterback and a defensive coordinator.
Let me begin by stating that I am not advocating ditching Miles. However, I do believe the leash is much shorter than it used to be. And our needs are much deeper than a QB and a DC. This season has taught me that we need a discipline, focus, know your assignments, and attention to detail coach more than anything else.
Besides the obvious over haul needed on defense. I think discipline and smarter play calling are need in a bad bad way. It's obvious JJ does bring a certain "look" that's hard to stop and he'll be great... but unless we can stop oppenant drives and stop giving up rediculous amounts on yards on penalties scoring 00 pts won't be enough.
