One of the teams we played this year, I think it was ULL, had a good pitcher that also played OF for them and was one of their best hitters.
Tulane's had a few. Micah Owings, Michael Aubrey, Brian Bogusevic, and Nick Bourgeois come to mind and that's just in the last ten years.
micah is probably the best example. when he was with the dbacks their coach said he was the best opposite field hitter they had. its too bad that after he was plagued with some injuries last year he just didnt have it on the mound like he did before. i am anxious to see chad jones next year tho. is it baseball season yet?
everyone already forget UVa's best pitcher was also their best hitter? also, personally, i know that ogea was a great high school hitter. i was surprised that he didnt hit at LSU, but skip seemed to be absolutely against that for every pitcher.
bogusevic was drafted as a pitcher for the stros and the second half of last season in the minors they moved him to the outfield. all he did was hit over .370 he may succeed like rick ankiel from pitcher to outfielder. micah owings is the still best hitting pitcher ive ever seen personally. he could be an everyday position player if he keeps regressing on the mound. he can mash.
im not surprised that bogie was eventually moved to of in the minors. he was always a great outfielder at tulane. when he wasnt pitching he played outfield. micah played 1b when not pitching. i think he could do that again. he is tall and lean with a helluva reach. i hate that he regressed on the mound. i would have loved to have seen him do both in mlb. and i agree, he can hit! i watched him hit one over the lights at turchin one night and that ball is maybe just starting to come down! i love seeing pitchers like that. true athletes that can also play positions and hit. thats why i really want to see jones next year. i would love to see the same thing from him.
