What? He was barely used on the baseball team. He may have greater potential in baseball, but I wouldn't say he "contributed hugely". I look for him to continue to play both sports until he really excels at one more than the other. At this point it is definitely not clear which sport offers him the greatest chance at a successful pro career.
I don't think he has underachieved in football. I think we'll be seeing a different Chad Jones with Chavis as the DC.
Disagree. He played a vital role last night that brought us a National Championship. Thats a huge contribution in my view and more then he has contributed in football regardless of his limited use in baseball. Saying you will see a different Jones under Chavis is admitting he underachieved, which he has.
I think he was implying that CJ was confused just like the rest of the defense with the co-dc situation and wasn't utilized to his full potential. I think there is a case that he was underutilized last season and not underachieving.
i agree that as it appears now he has a better future in baseball, but he'll make more $$$ from getting drafted high in football.
Then let me rephrase it... The dual-DC system for LSU failed miserably. The defensive backfield played out of position most of the season. Players true potential was not on display due to bad decisions of the coaches. I think Chavis will play Jones when, where, and how he needs to be played. That's why I think it's a little harsh to say he has underachieved. He definitely hasn't sucked so maybe you expected him to be an All-American by know. I don't know but I think you'll be happy with him this year. I surely hope so. I'm happy with the baseball title but I'm greedy for some good football too! :hihi:
Yeah, the only reason that Chad Jones might have underachieved in football last year was because our defense was terrible and the scheme we were in was terrible. Chad Jones wasn't allowed to do anything but sit around and watch. When you give him the chance to mix things up (blitz, etc.), he's extremely scary. I would say he impacted our football National Championship more, but he was big for us last night in the championship game as well. We don't win the BCS without him sacking Bama's QB (causing that fumble) and setting up the winning score with just over a minute left. I was there and will never forget that. It was just awesome. One of the best sacks in LSU history (if not the best considering what we were playing for)... Also, he was great against Tennessee in the SEC Championship. I think you'll see a major difference with the change of coordinators. Remember, he was Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-American (Sporting News) when we had an aggressive D. You can't beat his performance last night though. Texas' batters were in shock. Awesome.
I dont disagree but the reasons someone doesnt play up to his advertised potential still means he hasnt played up to his advertised potential. If that makes any sense. Chad was equally confused under Bo too. He played nothing like Patrick Peterson did during his freshman year albeit different positions but same coaching staff.
