This one is a head scratcher, since Phoenix and LA are kind of bitter rivals, but considering what LA gave up to get him (2 No.1s and 2 No.2s) made it very hard to pass up. This will make the Lakers better in the short term and they don't have to break up any of the core players, but I think they may have given up a bit much to get him. He is 38, so he may not have but 1 or 2 more good years left in him. Only time will tell..
They gave up way too much for a 38 year old, I don't care who he is, he's 38. He isn't on the same level he was 5 years ago. Just like Gary Payton and Karl Malone, he chasing that oh-so-elusive ring. Their philosophy is definitely "win now", and Kobe's almost 34, how much time does he have left?
Adding Steve Nash will add an extra year or two to Kobe's career. I'm thinking the old Kobe would never allow something like this to happen (he wants control of the offense) but now he seems more willing to let others do the hard work and he can keep doing what he's doing more efficiently.
Disappointed to hear this, Nash is one of my favorite players and the Lakers are my most disliked team. My friend that a Heat fan had me convinced he was going there.
All these guys are ring chasers, nothing more. Sellouts. There's no such thing as loyalty to your franchise, or to the players who made your franchise successful. Guy's falling off, but they refuse to take less money, so it's time to go. So gtfo. The business aspect of the games has taken over and will never look back.
They may have given up too much but those 1st round picks are going to be in the mid to late 20's. They aren't really worth that much. Most of those guys don't pan out anyway. As far as kobe and nash co existing, I don't see it as much of an issue. Kobe needs help creating and Nash can do that for other players. Nash doesn't need attention or admiration. He just wants to win. When you have a guy like Kobe, it's a shame to see a team start to rebuild and either dump him or be terrible at the end of their career. I guess the Lakers are figuring they have 2-3 more years with Kobe when he can really kill it so you may as well go for it. They will suck when he retires, that's inevitable, so you may as well ride her til she bucks you.
I grew up a Lakers fan during the Magic era and stayed with them through Shaq/Kobe but became a big time Kobe hater when I felt loyal to Shaq and felt obligated to take his side. Kobe showed in the playoffs this year that he has something left in the tank. Steve Nash takes care of his body the right way and has the type of game that could prove to be effective, even at this stage of his career. I've always enjoyed watching him play and there were rumors that Kobe lobbied hard to get him to L.A. While I don't know if I will actually "root" for the Lakers for the first time in a decade, I will definitely watch more of their games. Guys like b_leblanc apparently hate these types of moves but I really like them. The nature of the NBA allows only one player moving to another team to drastically change the dynamic of the team. I don't know if the Lakers will have enough left in the tank to challenge in the West but it will be fun to find out.
Wow. I just love when people think they know something about me and decide to put words in my mouth. That's cute.
