So many just don’t seem to get it. Krag is being brought in to develop QB’s. The offensive scheme will be all Miles. Miles wants a pro style offense that is run first to set up the pass. What we witnessed in the Cotton Bowl was exactly that. Miles has been building to get the offense he wants for 2 yrs now, and now he finally has the last piece of the puzzle. IMHO, Krag is a QB coach with the OC label just for show. This offense will be all Miles. Krag may call the plays, but it will be by Miles design. We will never be a pass happy team under Miles, it will always be run first, this was the problem with Crowton. Miles and Crowton never saw eye to eye on how to run the offense. Had Crowton been able to develop the QB’s even a little the offense would have been just fine. With Krag in there, this will happen. QB’s will become more efficient and able to perform at an above avg level. Add that to our run game and you have an offense that can consistently move the ball, and be able to function inside the red zone.

Exactly what I was getting at. If there's better chemistry between Kragthorpe and Miles than there was between Crowton and Miles, I'm more optimistic already. We've got talent, we just need to form an offensive identity of some sort. If that's pound the ball on the ground to set up the play action, I'm good with that. If it's downfield passing, I'm good with that. Just make sure everyone's on the same page.

Didn’t say that. It is my belief that GC always called the plays. What happened for this season, is that Miles developed the offensive play schemes. None of what we saw was a GC offense. The problem was that GC couldn’t develop either QB to perform at a level that would be efficient to run, not only his offense but any offense. Add to that QC didn't know how to call a string of plays that would consistently move the ball. With Krag that will change. He will be able to develop QB’s and have them as a solid function of the offense that Miles wants to run. Miles philosophy and Krag’s are similar in the respect of a pro style offense. Miles likes to run first to set up the play action, this is something that Krag does run, so the offensive scheme will be cohesive in that regard. We won’t have a HC and an OC that have different philosophies.

Miles has handpicked a set of offensive asst coaches that will all complement each other. Frank, in the run game, Gonzales for the passing game, Krag for the QB’s, and Stud for the OL (with Miles’ help hopefully).

Really, what does it matter? I know where you are headed here, let's throw the blame back on Miles and pin the O's ineffectiveness on him. That isn't where the problem lies. The problem lies in GC's inability to develop QB's and his inability to call a significant string of plays that consistently moves the ball.

With the hiring of Krag, that should all change. You have an OC and a HC that have the same philosophies, and an OC that can develop QB's. You fix those 2 areas and our offense now is potent enough to score some points, rack up some yards, and with our D we will win the games that we didn't before.

If you are hoping for an O that looks like Oregon or Au, then you are going to be very disappointed. What you will have is an O that can move the ball and score some points. We will more than likely be ranked somewhere in the 30's to 40's in offensive production, but with our D that will be more than enough. The O will be disciplined, it will play sharp, and it will look solid. These were things that you said were important, so with that you should be happy.

Another thing that is important to remember is that Miles wants an offense that will control the ball for long periods of time. He knows that he will be fielding a stout defense that will do its part, so he's not worried about scoring tons of points. Control the ball, set-up the pass with the run, don't turn it over, and let the defense stay fresh throughout the game. Sounds like a pretty simple and effective plan, no?

What that article tells me is that Malzahn/Graham won with Kragthorpe's players at Tulsa. :D

Kidding aside, what he did at Tulsa is remarkable, and his struggles at UL are well-understood. Furthermore, the offense under him in his first year at UL was pretty dang gaudy. The defense was the problem.

The more I learn about Kragthorpe, the more I like him.:thumb:

This is exactly right. Developing an offensive identity is the key moving forward!

Edit: and developing the QB position.

I bet the time management problems go away. Confusion of HC/OC caused problemson and off the playing field. TN game comes to mind - they had practiced what to do and JJ looked like a chicken that had it's head lopped off. QB development.
