I know everyone is upset and i am just as frustrated as we gave the game and didnt make them earn it. I thought as much as we all want to blame J Lee i think it was our playcalling that let us down today. It hurts to lose to those gumps but lets face it. They dont win the SEC Championship much les the NC. Fla. Coaches will not make the mistakes our coaches did today and they have an experienced qb. And their defense does match up to Bama too. I predicted 9-3 because of our losses at key positions and the most important was QB. Do you guys remember JPW for Bama a few years ago. He was worse than Lee is now. Please dont throw this kid under the bus because he was not supposed to be playing this year. He is doing the best he can . And i blame crowton for his horrible play calling today in some key situations. 3rd and 3 with a few mnutes left in the game i will take my chances with charles scott to get me three. Instead we put it in our young qb's hands who has not shown he can carry that burden. I am not going to panic and go crazy because i know we have some qb's coming and in the system that will compete for the job. Lets understand where we are in the rebuilding process and Lee is also getting some hard lessons learned. That will benefit us in the future. I am proud of the fight this tiger team showed and it wasnt just lee making some key mistakes. Dropped passes and stupid penalties. 5 yards before the final punt. Facemask at the end. 5 yards early in the game on the center good teams dont make those mistakes at key times and beat the #1team. Having said that we gave it to them. And that is what hurts the most.
I had a Journalism teacher tell me that she would never discuss a test that was returned to a student until the next day. Emotion aand Passion have a time to cool off..... Not that I ever want to lose, but I'll take a loss like that as opposed to our other 2 losses this season. :geauxtige:geauxtige :geauxtige:geauxtige
It was Lee's play that dictated the playcalling. I still think Lee can develop into a good QB though, he's just VERY lacking in confidence right now.
No he is lacking mental toughness and maybe toughness in general. He is always throwing off his back foot and turning his back bracing for a hit Brett Favre style. Also he gave up what looked like a sure first down and decided to try to float one to Keiland Williams instead of lowering his head and getting the first down.
I apologize, I didn't mean to take it out on Jarrett Lee. I blame the coaches for not trying something a little different if what your doing isn't working. A loss is a loss no matter who is in the game. I just kept waiting for a change of pace or something to kick start the offense but it never happened.
The fact that Lee is a frosh definitely tempers my anger. Throwing 4 picks like that in a game makes you want to put your fist through the wall, but we all knew that once Perilloux was excused, we were going to have some serious issues at the QB position. What I did not expect was our D to end up like swiss cheese a few times this year. They played well-enough to win today. Our QB problems were on exhibition for the entire country. I am not sure how we are going to get that position up to par quickly enough. Do we have to wait for Lee or Jefferson to develop? Will a transfer try to come in? Our previous crystals have shown that we can win with an "average" QB talent-wise, as long as he is smart and fits into the system. Right now, Lee is just deficient. He isn't ready - as you say. Perilloux has really hurt this program, and I find myself getting angrier about it even though it clearly should be water-under-the-bridge as we are past it or should be. Tough year, man.
It looked to me like he thought about it and changed his mind. There are two potential reasons for that: either he was scared of the hit, as per your theory...or the coaches specifically told him NOT to do anything that may put him in the position to get KTFO. I'm inclined to think the latter to be true. J-Lee goes down and we're left with a true frosh and NO backup. It's the "no backup" that would scare me as a coach or a fan.
I was saying this exact thing through the course of this game. I think that wih RP, we still lose to Florida...although it's close...and win UGA and BAMA. We'd still probably be in NC contention with a rematch showdown with Florida looming in Dec. If only he could have kept his head straight. But as you say...water under the bridge. My question now is "where do we go from here?" Do we still put our faith and our hope for the future of this program in J-Lee's hands and hope these are all just growing pains or do we spend next season trying to break in yet another QB? I just don't know...
That is the million dollar question. OR Maybe Russell Sheppard comes in next year and starts as a true freshman but I think we will use him like Florida used Tebow his first year. Russell Sheppard is amazing if you've seen him play.
That is the essence of the problem, at least on the offensive side of the ball. The one good thing here is that Lee is getting tons of experience and seeing a lot of adversity. Can he handle it and grow from it? It would be hard from some people to come back from some of the savage beatings he is taking in terms of his performance. Will the program be patient enough with him to try to develop him? Do they have a choice? What about Jefferson? Is this thing open next year? Does a transfer (like a Matt Moore who went from UCLA to Ore St.) try to come in? Obviously, Hatch isn't likely to be the answer, but might he be in the mix? I agree with you, I don't know what the answer is here, nor the outlook. Very frustrating. Hindsight being 20/20, I wish Perilloux had, in fact, chosen Texas over us. Oh well, c'est la vie. He's a coullion and did a lot of damage to the program. :angryfire
