With Urban Meyer stepping down after 9 years at Florida, I was wondering...How long do coaches stay at universities? Joe Paterno's and Bobby Bowden's tenures are extremely rare presently.

Did anyone realize that USF's coach Jim Leavitt is the third most tenured active coach? Of the 120 major colleges, HALF are manned by coaches in their second or third year.

I found this article which was written almost a year ago that gives a lot of interesting insight into the current situation. With the college football scene being very different now, I wonder what the situation was 20 years ago. What were the trends back then and how have they changed?

Unless something happens the most tenured coach may soon be Chris Ault of Nevada. Ya think they have a fan base that wants to get rid of head coaches (and assistants too) as much as we do in the SEC?

His entire head coaching career was 9 years, he was only at Florida for 5 years.

    Awesome article, though.
