I e-filed mine and got direct deposit. It actually deposited today. As for getting a return, I prefer it that way. I don't really care that the govn't gets an interest-free loan. I'd much rather get that lump sum annually and put it in savings because I doubt I'd do it on my own. Plus, it comes right after I get my yearly bonus at work, so I enjoy getting two bumps within the same few weeks. Got almost $5k back (federal) this year filing a joint return.
I adjust the quarterlies to try to break even or owe a small amount. I don't want to loan them a dime. Keeps my money earning money for me.
He's right about that. If I take out a loan I have to pay interest. Why don't they, especially when they use my tax money for crap I would never approve of.
I did and will just adjust from what I deposit in a savings account each month when I get paid. I'd prefer a check to do what I want- cash, deposit, stash in 1's and/or 5's for hurricane money, etc. Don't you think it'd be a pain in the azz if we paid people by depositing money in their accounts? Write 'em an effin check and be done.
Are you familiar with the 21st century? I write maybe 6 checks a year. Even my church contributions are by e check. The last check I got was from my grandparents at my birthday 9 years ago.
What I meant was when you go to a local restaurant, for example. Or people you hire to do yard work? Farm labor? Do you deposit money in their account too Mr. 21st? I can assure you checks are not only still VERY common but in many cases a necessity since there is no means to do otherwise in many instances. Mexicans who come to work on farms is another.
Why? They send me a check; I have to go to the bank and cash or deposit the check. If they direct deposit, I don't have to do anything. But I'm satisfied with whatever costs the government the least amount of money.
In Europe you can already do private bank transfers on your cellphones. It will be too easy and too cheap for paper checks to survive without the kind of fees people already pay for money orders.
