Agree 100%. There's no way to create homogeneous groups to compare in the first place. They should tie welfare checks to student achievement. If parents' kids don't make the grade, no money. Of course this would not work since SO MANY kids today are being raised without parents. Like Jindal's bullshyt, it sounds good in theory.
Why didn't Kathleen BLANK-O fix our problems? Wasn't she an edyoukator? Too bad we don't still have Edith Bunker Blanco as Governor. She was a jeanyus!
You hit on a big issue there... Nearly every study done shows that achievement improves with smaller class size. Most districts report average class size of 14, which is bull****, because that average includes special ed. and elective classes with three and four kids. My classes average 29 each. Last year it was 31. I know some teachers that have as many as 35 kids in a class. How are you supposed to give individualized instruction with classes that big and with the way kids behave these days?
That's a violation of Bulletin 741- unless it's a P.E. class or some other "special activity" class. Even Bulletin 741 has crazy numbers for the maximum allowed. K-3 teachers are can have 26 while 4-12 teachers, 33. Even though P.E. classes are allowed 40, "Resource" kids don't count towards that total. At least they used to not. Something else you touched on that's ONLY recently been changed is that counselors, librarians and in some cases even assistant principals were counted as "teacher slots" in determining that "average". For those who don't know, Bulletin 741 is a handbook for school administrators. It contains all BESE Bd policies that govern our schools in La. If you ever want to know any "legalities" it is available online.
