Team goes into today's game at 3-7 and Drayton dipshyt McLane picks up the option on Cecil Cooper's contract for 2010.

Yep, old Drayton officially doesn't give a flip if the Astros win anymore from now on.

While you're at it, double GM Ed Wade's salary too. He did a bang up job this off season.

I hope the fans return the favor and don't show up to the games. I would boycott the team if I were living in Houston.

Seldom can a manager make up for a lack of talent on his team. They're overmatched.

The sad thing is we didn't improve one bit this off season. Nothing. No pitching (unless you count noodle arm Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz) and certainly no offense or defense.

Pudge was a long reach simply for leadership and slight defensive purposes.

    It's horrible. Simply horrible.

I'd go just to throw stuff on the field.

He's there to get the most out of his players and inspire them, especially in a situation like the Astros are in.

Going 3-7 and signing someone longer term hasn't been done since.....well.......Isiah Thomas.

And we all know how that turned out.

The problem with Isiah wasn't his coaching, but that fact that they gave him GM power as well. He filled that team with bloated contracts well past their prime. Sounding familiar. If you want to point the finger for the Astros' failures, don't look to the manager.

All the inspiration in the world won't make up for a depleted rotation, marginal bullpen, and an empty farm system.

    They don't have the players.

true. doesnt matter who the manager is this team cant be saved. depleted farm is their biggest problem and thats from the top.

re-signing cooper made no sense however.

They're still not looking great but are now 14-17 after sweeping San Diego, so they're a little over .500 since starting 3-7.

This was their best hitting day this season. It was their season high in hits and runs scored. Too bad they can't play the Padres everyday. San Diego royally sucks!
