Only problem with that is that JJ is not a run-option QB by any means. He only ran straight up field occasionally in HS. He sticks to the pocket and when he rolls out for extra space and time he is still going through his checks. I personally do not see him turning into that type of QB over the fall since he has shown very minimal speed and elusiveness throughout HS.

I see Hatch as the main running threat out of the 3.

Not saying he will not be called on to run the offense with calls designed for him. Just that he will come in and fill similar roles as Hatch and Lee.

I believe that to be the case.

How's our QB mobility compared to Flynn? From what I understand Lee is a pocket guy. While Hatch might be similar to Flynn.

When I think of JJ I think of a smaller JMarc. Lots of roll outs and scrambling to buy time. I know he does have a different style throw. More of a side arm toss. Usually though a FS QB sees the field in a running style play. Maybe though CLM is planning on letting JJ throw and compete for the starting spot.

I still don't think he's going to Redshirt.

I see Flynn, Hatch, and Lee as all pocket guys who have the ability to create space and run on designed plays. They will not kill you with speed or make defenses miss becuase of "moves". I expect to see QB draws and other plays designed to run up hill behind blockers. I think Hatch feels the most comfortable running the ball out of the 3 QBs right now. I do not see Lee running much option but time will tell and the same goes for JJ IMO.

When I think of JJ I think David Garrard. Here is a scramble video of Garrard which basically covers all the scrambles I saw him do this season. As you see he is always looking downfield at his options and runs when the play is busted and no one is open. You can also see the defenses did not worry to much his running ability and he took advantage of it when he could and there was daylight for days.

Hatch & Jefferson's running ability are probably about even - comparable to Flynn. Neither are great runners, but they can run the option & if the field opens up they can get down it.

Lee is the least mobile of them, but he had great pocket presence in HS. That didn't translate to the Spring Game so much, but it may have just been nerves.

Right, but it was just touch-football, nothing to be afraid of. For example, in that youtube clip highlighting Hatch that bhelm shared with us here at TF, there was one run that Hatch made in the Spring Game that was particularly impressive to me, but I wonder if he'd actually run like that in a tackle-football game. Sure, when you know the defense is just playing touch-football with you, it's easy to run with reckless abandon... but that's a lot different than running with reckless abandon in a real tackle football game against SEC rivals that would probably enjoy putting you in a coma. I believe it's common for college football coaches to train their QBs to run very cautiously, to escape hits, to take dives, etc. Granted, I'd prefer a Craig Steltz-style guy at QB, who runs with reckless abandon, not caring that he may be knocked out of the game (as Steltz himself was knocked out of the game on occasions), but I doubt the LSU coaches will allow us to have a QB that runs with that kind of attitude when it comes to guys like Hatch and Lee.

Lee is a 4* on a scholly, I could be wrong and I'm sure if I am someone will pounce on it but I think Hatch is a walk on/transfer? Wouldn't conventional wisdom say go with the scholly? I am pretty sure dandy don said lee has the better arm from one of the practices he attended.

I was funnin', John. :rolleye33: But since you reacted with 400 words (hyperbole - don't count!), let's continue. First of all - the Spring Game was most definitely NOT touch football. The QBs got a break. But I'd say the RBs and linemen would take exception to your characterization of a game you watched on YouTube.
I watched it on Live Tube, which is better than You Tube. If you don't think the DL and OL and LBs and RBs and DBs were fightin' for a starting job, you're crazy. There were many hard hits during the game. Sure, dudes that got close to the QB got the benefit of the doubt. In an actual game, I'm thinking the QBs would've scrambled HARDER, not more reluctantly.
Previous answer. It's common for most 210 lb guys to train themselves to run cautiously in the presence of 300lb animals who run 4.8s and bench press entire families (well, maybe not south LA families )
Surely you misquoted yourself, John. I'm confident deep in the recesses of your inner monologue, you don't prefer QBs who confuse themselves with Safeties. Tebow is an anomoly - and he's very close to wearing himself out before getting a chance at the big time. QBs should be able to first avoid, then if necessary take, a hit. QBs should avoid delivering hits at all cost. They're too valuable. Craig Steltz as a QB would be a nightmare, for himself and for the team.

Hatch is a walk-on/transfer, but he is on scholly now.

Lee definitely has the better arm.
