Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:milesmic: None of us know didly squat about the QB's at this point, the coaches have an idea but not proof. They'll put an enormous amount of pressure on them in the preseason unlike the normal routine and see who wins the job. If neither one separates himself in fall camp then I expect to see both play a lot in the first 2 or 3 games.
True, but Hatch is older & wasn't as nervous at the beginning of the Spring Game as Lee was. That is why I think Hatch starts the first few, but then Lee gets his chance before Auburn. Lee improved leaps & bounds during the Spring Game after he got over the initial excitement. Easing him into being the starter seems to be the most logical thing to do.
In the NFL where all teams are equal, that's good procedure. We have a different situation, where we get 3 easier games (ok, appy st. beat Mich. last season), then the real deal. We may do it different. Could go down like you say, will be interesting to see. Miles may want to make a statement about who his QB is, early, and that could go Lee's way.
I think we could see musical chairs rountine this year depending on who has the confidence and composure during different time spans this year and potential injury situations. I expect there to be inconsistency by both QBs throughout the year and think Miles will have them both ready with friendly competition. I do feel that Hatch will be the starter to begin the season based on how Lee has handled pressure in practice and the start of the Spring Game. But fairly even snaps the 1st 3 games. Lee performed slightly better during Spring practice and when he gains the steadiness in game situations he will see increased time in critical situations. As for Jordan, I think he will take a redshirt unless one of the 2 QBs gets banged up. But that all comes down to how he transitions in Fall Practice. So basically there is a good chance one gets hurt or underperforms and JJ will get a shot if the other QB has not clearly established himself as a fully reliable starter. However, I can't see him bringing much difference to the table like RP because I see him having similar attributes and styles as Hatch and Lee. Not a burner or shifty QB who will come in strictly for run and play action. Way too early prediction is that Hatch will start and take 65-80% of the snaps against Auburn. Obvious prediction: This will be a hot topic among Tiger fans during Fall practice.
Lee performed way better during spring practice. Did Hatch have a lucky day in the spring game? Or is he just a "football player?" because hester never looked good in practice either. Time will tell, but I think Lee will be a good player.
I voted that Lee will start. He was a highly-regarded recruit, he's had a year in the system (as has Hatch, who Red pointed out is NOT senior in his time @ LSU), and I feel like he will perform. Fall practice will be interesting, and I'll be surprised if Miles doesn't choose a "true" starter prior to App. State.
I think Hatch takes the first few starts then Lee comes in. It was clear from the spring game that Lee still has some nerves to work through. And that was just the spring game. They won't be able to simulate true game atmosphere and I think that will play into Les starting Hatch until Lee works through his excitement. I don't think he'll wait until Auburn to make Lee's first start though. That'd put the pressure back on him (first start, SEC game, AND Auburn which is a big big game). Either Lee wins the start by game 3 or I think Les will continue with Hatch as long as he's not making huge mistakes. One thing I don't see anyone talking about is how the offense is going to look in the first few games. If you remember Crowton played a completely vanilla offense until the VT game and then opened it up. I have a feeling that's what will happen this year to Auburn. We'll play 3 vanilla games and show nothing of how our offense will look (or very little) and then open up for Auburn. I also think that means we'll see only a little of JJ in the first 3 games, but then he might play a RP role after that. CLM has already said (as per DandyDon) that you shouldn't count out JJ for coming in and even taking the starting job from Hatch and Lee. I think this shows CLM's mindset that JJ won't redshirt and will instead be a run-option QB.
hatch the entire season. he's older. he can scramble better (important for new qb) he's a crowton disciple, so while he and lee have been at lsu the same amount of time, hatch has a better understanding of crowton's system. it's hatch's until he screws up bigtime, or lee sets the world on fire (he will get plenty of PT) because of the great OL and very good skill players, hatch will be good enough.
Hatch was recruited by Crowton at BYU, but he never played under him. They both have the same amount of time in Crowton's system.
I agree. Last year it served a different purpose. He was still implementing the offense here & he was also limiting the amount of film for our opponents to watch. Opponents can now go back & look at last year's film & his offense is already implemented, so those won't be the reasons this year - easing the QB's into the playbook may be though.
