Is Coach Paul Mainieri nervous for this weeks super regional game against Oklahoma? Starting Nola in game one instead of saving our ace for game two. Gray is a great pitcher, but is Oklahomas bullpen that deep. What is the strategy defensively for the tigers? Seems like we had a hard time getting started early in the regional were the teams that good or were we playing semi poorly? I have many questions and concerns about this weeks match up verse Oklahoma. I haven't seen much of them but from what I hear they have a great bull pen and they are a very well coached baseball team.
Correct. They're ace versus our ace. OU's bullpen is solid, but I still give ours the nod. They also have some great bats in their lineup, but 1-9, I think we have the edge. OU is one of the best teams we will have faced all year and they'll be playing with huge emotion because of the tornado victims. Lastly, they're softball team just won the national championship, so they'll obviously be trying to keep pace with the girls by bringing home the baseball NC to match.
I don't think their baseball team has a pitcher as big as the softball pitcher......that being said, she was a studette!
All week long I get seeing or hearing that we needed to save Nola for game two, I don't understand that kind of thinking. And OU is likely to get a very similar game today as they have another very good and experienced guy throwing today. I'm glad PM didn't have that same thought process. Nola was magnificent.
Man, I haven't seen a pitcher with average velocity be so dominant. It was almost Madduxish. Just complete control of the plate with the exception of 2 pitches really. Well 3 he hit the guy that smacked the double in the gap, but he also picked him off after he hit him hahahaha. I mean the cutter, the slider, the curve, and the fastball at great times. Working inside and outside, the cutter that jams right handed hitters and miraculously some curveball that breaks left to right. We are witnessing something special here with this guy. You don't have to overpower hitters with upper 90's if you can confuse them and control the plate inside and out, up and down.
Great call LaSalle on the comparison to Maddux. Fastball no better than 90 mph. Throwing darts is how you describe this kind of pitching. He just simply would not give in to the middle of the plate.
