LSU coaches deserving of a statue . . . Charlie McClendon, Dale Brown, Skip Bertman LSU players deserving of a statue . . . Shaq (already has one), Billy Cannon, Pete Maravich, Bob Petit
Pete Maravich played like he was black. OK, I threw out the names of a lot of great players but you can't build statues to them all. You would have an army of statues. What they should do is build statues of Paul Dietzel, Billy Cannon, Charlie McClendon and Jerry Stovall and put them with Dietzel and Cannon on one side of a Tiger Stadium entrance with their hands together held high in a victory pose and the same on the other side with McClendon and Stovall. Then make plaques for all the other great players and place them in Tiger Stadium where they can be seen by everybody and the TV cameras. Like the Dallas Cowboy's Ring of Honor. Same thing with baseball. Skip Bertman is our only version of Bear Bryant or John Wooden so a large statue of him at the Box with plaques lining the wall or maybe in the outfield like Yankee Stadium's Monument Park honoring the great Yankees Basketball - Brown, Pettit, Pistol and Shaq with plaques near the court for the other greats like Rudy Macklin Chris Jackson, the Cookie Man, ect.
Hey minimum qualification for a statue is being in the College Hall of Fame. As time goes by more blacks will make the hall. As it is we could add Bernie Moore, Doc Fenton, Ben McDonald, Jerry Stoval, Todd Walker, Tommy Casanova, Charles Alexander and bout a half dozen more from the old days the 40's and 40's.
Who says there's a minimum qualification? Is it an NCAA rule? Couldn't LSU put up a statue of D.J. Welter if for some strange reason they wanted to?
Completely unintentional, this time. Stupid Android spell check... Changes poboy to pinot. Makes for interesting lunch texts...
