I have a question about the game on Sunday. Crucial game, series was tied 1-1, and the score in game 3 was tied at 3 all going into the bottom of the 8th. And the St. Louis manager puts in a relief pitcher Carlos Martinez with a 5.08 ERA who had only 21 inning pitched the entire season? I see also he is a rookie this season. Looks like he had 4 rough outings this season, thus the high ERA. I just don't understand why you would put a rookie with so little experience in such a pivotal situation. That relief pitcher went on to give up 2 runs, Cardinals lose game 3, 5-3. At second glance, my guess is it was situational pitching, which the Cardinals like to do more than any other team in baseball. Their dominant left handed specialist (0.45 ERA) came in after to try to keep the Pirates off the board with 2 men on but allowed 2 hits to score the 2 runs. My opinion is you pitch the dude with the 0.45 ERA, not the one with the 5.08 ERA. Screw the matchups.
