Spurrier and his coaches have been banned from a jawja high school for pulling a scholarship from a committed player: http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/84872-spurrier-no-longer-welcome-at-high-school "Its just not fun anymore people."
I'd never heard of a coach at a major program being banned before. They didn't say why they pullled his scholarship offer, though. Wonder how common that is?
Happens quite a bit. Koenning, the DC we almost hired, isnt welcomed in Mobile County, AL. Saban isn't welcomed in a FL high school. A lot of coaches that have been around a while have been involved in at least one story like this. Now all, but a lot. Personally I dont think high school coaches should regulate what colleges students can look at but I see their problem with Spurrier.
did this come from when the AD changed the standards (wouldnt adjust that is) there a couple years back and SOS had to renege on the commitments?
no, it's about Jonathan Davis, a LB from the same HS as Drayton Calhoun whom Ron Cooper was pretty high on. Once Cooper came down here, the staff pulled his scholarship.
doesnt make sense to me. they just didnt want him so they dumped him when cooper bailed to free one up or is it spite? seems like it could be costly doing this in UGA land.
Something like this happened just the other week as well. Plant HS in Florida has it out for Shannon because of the Marve situation.
I see it as a problem with the whole system really with all this committed but still looking type approach. I don't see why it's not treated like any other contract. School makes the offer, player accepts, and it's done. If either party breaks the deal there certain consequences that they must adhere to that are known going in.
