I agree wit the coach. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_staples/04/18/steve-spurrier-sec-change/
Have to say that I don't like it. What becomes the difference between a non-conference and a cross-divisional game? To me this would make us less of a single conference, and more like two separate conferences contracted to send our champions to a pre-bowl game before the BCS bowl games. And of course, we get stuck with the new guys.
Yikes, as an English teacher, his grammar was atrocious in that article. "Us and Georgia"--two times!! I think the ultimate solution is to get rid of the "permanent" cross-divisional games. Sure, Florida ended up on the short end of the stick in having to play us last year (not that they'd have gotten to Atlanta otherwise), but we've endured many a beating at the hands of the Gators over the years. It's simply never be equitable for two traditionally strong teams to play each other, while other divisional foes play a cupcake like Vandy or Kentucky yearly.
I’m on the fence when it comes to permanent cross over’s. Does it suck to play a big power in the other division every year when others get a nice easy game? Yes absolutely. However, there have been some epic LSU vs Florida outings in the past decade. When it comes to entertainment, I would prefer to watch us play Florida and have a competitive outing over a Kentucky blowout any day.
Yeah, plus I'm afraid of catching second-hand gay every time I watch their fans do that pathetic gator chomp.
I always wondered why division champs weren't determined by division record first. I even entertained the idea of starting a thread about it but I didn't want to appear ignornant or dumb. It just never struck me as fair that you could have two teams from the same division where (pre expansion) Team 1 beats everybody in their division but got stuck with the two strongest teams from the other division and loses both of those games so their division record is 5-0 and conference record is 5-2. Then you could have Team 2 whose only loss was to Team 1 but had the good fortune of playing the two weakest teams from the other division so their division record is 4-1 and their conference record is 6-1 and they are division champs. This seems to make divisions irrelevant.
Your heart is in the right place. It ain't fair is it? Not only that, you could potentially have a team that is not even the best team in its division win the SEC championship.
