I think you are probably right. A lot of it is mental and since they are coming off of a championship he is bringing them back to reality. Most of the time teams go out and run it is planned -- the coach just makes up some bs excuse as to why they are doing it...if anything, coaches want to teach.
the first team run was because the team had collectively missed 200 classes that was more misses than all fall. that was the only extra running thus far.
Yep. The team has to decide if they want to make a run at another championship, and dedicate themselves to doing what is necessary. There is a tale out of Austin that VY's last year, during the summer, VY told the team, "Anyone who wants to win a national championship next year, show up for the 7 PM workouts". Everyone showed up, they had that much respect for VY. Somebody has got to be the leader, and the objective needs to be clear, and the players each have to commit to doing their part. I think LSU was helped a great deal by Dorsey, Flynn, and Doucet, last season.
this is a really nice post.....unfortunately LSU has no leader at this point at the QB position....it will take quite a while for RP to gain that respect and he will have to work doubly tough to get to that point.
RP will have the majority of the team's respect instantly when he comes back....on the field that is. On the field he has their respect because he plays hard and plays to win and is capable of leading them to victory (they respect him even more now after seeing how Lee and Hatch have looked). Off the field, the opinions differ - much as they do with the fans.
if you asked the players in a vote if they would want RP back, it would be 110-2 with Hatch and Lee being the only ones voting no, for their own playing time purposes. everyone wants him back. dude is a leader. winning MVP of a SECCG with a finger that is about to fall off does that.
I think the LB situation will work itself out before the season begins. I'm pretty confident the coaches will get them where they need to be, they'll get the job done.
Well, this was said last season as well. LSU lost four players that were 1st round picks. How can they lose players like that and not suffer a drop-off, all the websites asked? How can they lose a #1 draft pick quarterback and not drop off? Yet LSU won the national championship with a first year quarterback and a lot of new players, like Steltz who made All American in his only year as a starter. LSU is deep, Terry. We aren't rebuilding, we are reloading. We have new faces, but none of them are green. All the new guys have significant PT and will fill their roles. Leaders graduate every year and new leaders step up.
The team is supposedly in better shape this Spring than they were last year. It doesn't look like complacency is going to be an issue.
