Harris looks to have an awkward delivery to me, looks like his footwork in drop backs can be cleaned up, and of course needs more time to develope chemisty with the receivers. Most of the scrambles he had, his head was down instead of looking down field. Jennings probably is concerned about losing his spot to Harris. Probably tried to do a little too much. Also looked to be holding the ball too long on some pass plays (the three sacks for sure). Wonder how constantly having to look over his shoulder will make him feel during the season, should Jennings not lock down the starting position beforehand?
Have no problem with Harris, little to no effort to chunk the ball 50 yards. Like I said, Rohan release, smooth. Like I also said, Cam is working footwork with all. Jennings is doing what he needs to get better. A couple things with Cam: In his nearly 10 full seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator (San Diego Chargers from 2002–06; Baltimore Ravens from 2008-2012), Cam Cameron was a part of 100 victories, averaging 10 wins per season. He helped San Diego compile a 47-33 regular season record as the offensive coordinator for the Chargers, while the Ravens notched a 53-24 regular season mark during Cameron’s tenure in Baltimore. The average experience of Cam Cameron’s starting quarterbacks during his 10 seasons as an offensive coordinator was 3.2 years. If you don’t count the two seasons that Philip Rivers was a backup to Drew Brees (Rivers’s first career start was the first game of his third NFL season), the average starting experience for Cam Cameron’s starting quarterbacks during those 10 seasons was 2.9 years. Cameron returned to his alma mater to serve as the head coach for the Indiana University Hoosiers in 1997. Cameron brought an explosive offense to school with highly effective offensive players such as Antwaan Randle El. Indiana averaged 23.6 points per game under Cameron's guidance. In fact, Randle El became the first player in NCAA Division I history to pass for 40 career touchdowns and score 40 career rushing touchdowns. He finished his college career as fifth on the all-time NCAA total yardage list, and became the first player in college football history to record 2,500 total yards for each of four consecutive years. Randle El was drafted as a wide receiver in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers made him their top kickoff returner through the 2004-2005 season, and their top punt returner. His quarterback experience allowed the Steelers to use him as a passer in a variety of trick plays, most notably a game-clinching 43-yard double reverse touchdown pass to Ward in Super Bowl XL. He was the third non-quarterback and the first (and so far, only) receiver to throw a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl. So Cam set all those records with a WR playing QB, I think we will be fine at the position. Oh, FYI, Cams OC at Indiana was the only LSU football Head Coach to win every game as the HC. All the info leading up to this game and even the private scrimmage a week ago had Jennings as a wide lead going into the fall. This info didn't come just from media folks but people who have actually attended this scrimmages and practices in full this spring. As fans we saw the bowl game with Jennings and this spring game and see something completely different. Harris and Jennings looked like polar opposites for a majority of the Spting game. I will say that Jennings had a really nice drive to start the 2nd half but Harris was just looking about as comfortable as you could hope for someone playing QB and on the team since January. I have heard that Jennings is a great worker and leader but the arm strength, pcoket awareness, speed, etc... all but guarantees Harris some major playing time this season. If this continues into the fall then I will predict a 2 QB system until one seperates from the other. We are going to see a ton of FB/TE use this year and designed QB runs/options this season. Either Harris is a gamer like Rohan or he is clicking very early in his career and either way spells trouble for Jennings IMO.
LSU QB's.......... http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/col...-have-productive-summer?ex_cid=espnapi_public
Anthony seems to be one of those QBs who is their own worst enemy. In last year's spring game, he looked very comfortable back there. He didn't make any spectacular throws, but the consensus was that he seemed like a natural fit...good footwork, made good decisions, and just seemed comfortable playing the position. Of course, Mett was the guy and there was exactly 0 pressure on him last year. We saw the exact same thing vs Arky. His trajectory of development appeared to be on course. Then comes the bowl game, for which he had a month to think about...not always a good thing for an over-thinker. You could see that in how long he held onto the ball; a lot of indecisiveness. I didn't get to watch the spring game, but it sounds like he had more of the same. His best bet may be to see a sports psych before August. He doesn't seem to be responding well to the pressure.
Iowa had one of the best defenses in the country last year and were fully healthy with a month to prepare for Jennings. I usually think of Wisconsin as having a tough D but think (?) I heard that they lost a lot of their front 7. If this is the case, I'm guessing we may pound it early and often (similar to Iowa) with our big and experienced O-Line. After Wisconsin, we play three cupcakes plus Miss St. at home. That should be enough time for the QBs to get some experience before going on the road at Auburn. Who knows, maybe the full-time starter at QB doesn't separate himself until the Auburn game.
There is truth to this. If we look at the Ark game, he had nothing to lose. He was thrown in a situation I don't think any QB wants to be in on their 1st effective game. During the Iowa game, while it was a good D, he missed throws. I could tell, IMO, that he was thinking to much. He wasn't just playing. I feel like during the spring game he was doing the very same thing. Harris just seems to be playing. What does he have to lose? Nothing..... Some kids just thrive when the game is on. Others think to much.
I doubt our gameplan games much from Iowa to Wisconsin. If anything, if our QB is 5/5 then I can see us opeingin it up. If they are 1/5 then it will be a three headed monster show of Magee, Hillard, and LF.
