Spring game thoughts

Now that the spring game is over can someone post how the depth chart is starting to look on both sides of the ball.

Hatch is a "gamer". Great news for LSU!

I see JV kids looking off the receiver. It is a lost art on our team, and I would like to see it implemented more. It is merely a tool to help the team. I will never mention anything that could help our young, inexperienced QB's again.:nope:

I've watched 1000's of games over the years and all QB's stare down their receiver when they throw the ball to the number one target, including NFL QB's. All of em. When they go to their second and third options is when they are looking around.

With the loss of RP, the Spring Game performance of Hatch and Lee is now very relevant. Here are the comments in this thread regarding our QB's at the Spring Game...

Lee and Hatch looked pretty good. No ints ferom these two. ... No sign of RP that I could see. Press box maybe?

I'd say Hatch was the biggest surprise for me. I thought Lee would be OK but didn't think Hatch would look quite as good as he did.

I didn't like the way the QB's seem to go one direction with the passing, and they EYEBALL the receiver.

neither QB has any game experience at all. I don't know what you were expecting, but the stats look a hell of a lot better than what I was expecting.

Just expecting a Harvard guy to be smart enough to look off a DB every once in a while:lol:. But it was ok...I am not bashing them, just stating that they STARE DOWN the receiver from the minute they get the ball in their hands. That's not an athleticism thing...thats a mental thing.

Little something they picked up from Matt Flynn. You remember him. They threw zero pics against what may be another top 5 defense. Can't understand how you can possibly be negative about these two gents. I'd say they're stepping up. In a big way. RP will have solid relief if he needs it.

I know Matt Flynn did it...that is why I am a little tired of it. I am not being negative...just pointing out an aspect of their game that could make them better. I didn't ask for Miles to cut the freaking guys??? GEEZ!

Someone threw a pick to the LBs that was batted around before the INT. It was the QB for the White team???

Near the end of the first half? That was one of the walk-ons.

One of the walkons (#17) actually moved the team a bit and looked like he was big enough to play. He definitely threw at least one pic. I believe there were three total, all by walkons.

I just wanted you to know that I did have a :lol: behind my comment about the QB. I was not trying to be too harsh on them

Looking off a defensive back ain't as easy as it sounds. I was pleasently surprised at both QB's play.

Hopefully, if for any reason they have to get extended playing time in the fall, they'll have a stout defense and top flight running game, so it'll be a manage the game and not a have to go out and win it type thing.

Going over the Scout game summary, Hatch threw an INT to Taylor late in the 3rd. Taylor also had an INT thrown by McCartney but it was called back because of a roughing the passer penalty.

The only way looking off a back isn't easy is if you are in a freakin neckbrace. You glance off and turn back and hit the target. It is actually EASIER than it sounds...because one flinch of your chin to the left or right an inch and the Safety moves 3 yards. Enough room to give your WR the uncontested catch, and save a knock out hit, or an INT.

I've said enough about this, I didn't say the QB's sucked...I JUST SAID THAT THEY NEED TO LEARN TO LOOK OFF A DB IF THEY WANT TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL.

Flynn & Russell both stared down their receivers. JR was probably worse about it. Always seemed like he locked on to his hot route before the ball was even snapped.

Anyway, I always gripe about that, too. But apparently, it's a lot harder to find QBs at the collegiate level that look off their receivers than I thought it would be. Oh, and I thought that Hatch definitely over-achieved. That long bomb that he threw in the early part of the game was perfectly placed. And he has an outstanding ability to run.

WE HAVE TWO PERFECT QB'S AND WE SHOULD NOT ONLY WIN THE BCS BUT POSSIBLY EVEN THE SUPER BOWL AND THE WORLD SERIES OF POKER!!! Is that better???:wave:

Hatch definitely looked better than I thought. He seemed to have good command of the offense and was confident. Obviously he still needs some work but this is the spring game and he's hardly had a tin of time working with the 1st offense. When it comes time to move the kid has some wheels. I'm certainly not ready to lose Ryan but I'm a little more confident after seeing Hatch. I've been really waiting to see Lee since he was recruited and I was a little disappointed yesterday. He definitely has the skills but needs a little more time with the 1st team to get his timing and speed of the game down.

Have to remember also that Lee has been > than Hatch over the entire Spring except for the Spring game. I was impressed with Hatch and I remember being impressed with his pocket presence and running ability when he recieved some playing time last year.

As has been pointed out, Lee looked a lot better and more comfy after "halftime". I was watching Hatch on the sidelines and he was pacing and clearly pumped up. Wish I had those seats in regular season. Fun to see the guys reacting and listen to the coaches teach on the sidelines.
