Overall, I see a lot of improvements from last year. But to compete for the SEC there is a lot of improvements that need to be made. JJ has looked horrible today. His passes are way off. Ive backed him a lot but there is no backing how he has performed. Lee looks good yet again in the spring but comes off as shot in game time. The pick 6 was another bad throw, he is unfortunate for that. As a passer Lee does a good job. Ford and Ridley are looking GREAT. Both kids are beasts. Ford is gonna be the real deal and I think he should start. His vision is very good, great patience as a runner. Im very happy with the RBs. Im a huge fan of Shepard but his hands need a ton of work. The OL is looking a lot better. Im pretty happy with what Ive seen with them The big problem is the D. More poor tackling again this year. The DEs cant seem to hold any contain at all. The DTs dont clog up the middle at all. The DL is a huge work in progress. I wasnt at all impressed with them as a whole. Mingo is gonna be a big time player when he puts on a few more pounds. Expect him to make a ton of plays this year and down the road. The kid is player. THe play calling has been pretty good for the most part. I just still see too many short passes. Almost everything is a screen, slant, short curl, or a RB in the flat. We have a long way till the season but LSU must teach tackling before the start of the season. The QBs must improve by the start of the season as well. Its pretty sad when arguable your second best player is your kicker. Jasper is gonna be big this year. 57 yards is exceptional, and into the wind!
QB play as been very bad today to go along with a ton of drops. Looks like the WRs are focusing on making catches now which will help set a rhythm. Lee is getting a few little things, screens (Minus the blind screen where he barely even looked). JJ is getting rid of it but setting up to many deep throws for him. RBs looking really good and the line is doing a great job on run plays. Not bad on passing plays but the run blocking seems to be the strong suit at this point. I wish Mingo gained more weight but he still has time becase his speed off the edge is something we would use next year.
Now they are setting up JJ for success with the little things and he is getting easy completions like Lee.
That's because they are running the 2 minute drill...outs to the outside. However, he just missed an open receiver downfield again...then scrambled around for 10 seconds before being tackled in the middle of the field. Not good. He...NOR Lee...have looked good today. Good thing is again, running game looks stout. JJ ends the game with an INT.
I agree, neither look very good, but JJ looks really bad. Also, as much as I hate to agree with James and crew, our DL looks a little light in the behind
