Nor can you have a quarterback that makes zero touchdowns. Last in the SEC in total offense isn't where we need to go again.

Actually, you have a much better chance with a QB that makes zero touchdowns than one that throws pick 6s in a game. But you don't have much of a chance if your QB doesn't throw TDs and barely completes passes like JJ did yesterday (although the completion % was unlike him).

Our passing game was still much better than our running game last year. If you look at the difference between LSU's passing game last year and Bama's/Florida's, it's not that much of a difference.

But if you look at the running game averages, it wasn't even close.

Anyway, for those that would even entertain the idea of JL starting, we could change our name to the LSU Priuses if y'all were in charge. Because this program would be headed for the biggest crash ever if y'all were calling the shots.

Any QB that continues what has occurred the last two years will be a disaster.

    - You can't have an OC that puts QBs in bad positions
    - You can't have a QB that throws pick 6s
    - You can't have a QB that basically takes a knee

If Jefferson plays like he did last year, and the defenses stack the line with 8-9 in the box you will see a mega-crash of the team in my opinion.

If our defense wasn't horrible in 2008 Lee would have lead us to 10 wins easily. Jefferson had the benefit of having what was pretty much a top-10 defense on his side.

Lee could take us to 10 wins this season with a stingy defense and a strong running game to take the pressure off of him. I'd like to see him against real competition though so I hope he gets the chance early. I saw this earlier..

Hahaha! Bull$hit. Speaking of people with short memories (or no memory). The usual suspects... You probably said we'd open it up against Tech last year too...

First of all, Florida would have beat us even with a good D. Ole Miss killed us and Lee could barely complete a pass in that one (I believe JJ scored the only TD). Against Bama, we played great D and should have won, but JL blew it with FOUR picks, including a big pick 6. And we would have lost to Troy if not for JJ coming in and and getting us in the end zone because we absolutely could not get in through three quarters with Lee behind center. JJ got us in and gave us hope at 31-3 making it 31-10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. And Jefferson had our Bowl win (our one impressive performance for the year).

And by the way, Lee had the benefit of a great running game behind him for most of that season. Based on Lee's one start against an inferior opponent last year, he actually got much worse. And our defense was not that great last year...just pretty good.

Lee has usually been pretty decent in practice. But for some players, practice doesn't mean $hit. I'm not taking up for JJ's $hitty performance, but one spring game doesn't mean anything compared to actual performance.

I saw lots of good Sat!!

I will wait now to see who the staff puts out 1st in A town.

    Great D

Great running game with play makers on the team.

I will not be shocked to see #12 start in Atlanta , not at all.

I will then judge this young man based on what he does this year and let the past be the past and that goes for #9 if he starts also.

You're full of crap. You are the one ready to chunk the season because JJ looked bad. I'm just tired of spotting the other team 6 points so I want JJ.

I was pretty harsh against Les Miles and our offense last season. Speaking of short memories..

Interesting that you only mentioned 3 of our losses. What about the other 2 games we lost because we could not stop anyone from scoring? I think you have to give Lee credit for Troy btw, as sad as that game was.

Are you saying that the offense was the issue in 2008, not the defense? Lee lead us to ~31 points a game if I remember correctly, which is a very respectable number. Our defense in 2008 was as bad as our 2009 offense.

The quality of opponents Lee faces in practice is much higher than when he faced La. Tech last year. He's a year old, a year wiser, and a year more seasoned. If he's ready to lead this team and get rid of his psyche problems he's a much better prospect at QB.

Jefferson had a top-10 defense behind his back. Our defense only gave up 16 points a game. It was better than our 2007 defense which gave up right at 20 points per game. The defense that was behind Lee gave up 33 points per game against ranked teams in 2008 btw.

I don't really disagree with you here. There definitely needs to be progress or teams will find it easier and easier to stuff us on offense. And I'm not saying JJ had anywhere near a disastrous year last year either. But there were certain games where we could barely throw anything past five yards. Still, I think the running game and O-line were our biggest problems last year. We just weren't good running the ball last year and you can't have that with a QB who will just manage the game on certain Saturdays.

I would be shocked - big surprise...I know. And while that is a noble attitude you have, it's not always practical. This was still just one scrimmage (and the difference in QBs was not much at all). Jefferson has been better than Lee in actual games as of late.

Hey, I never said you weren't harsh on Les Miles or the offense last year. I was specifically talking about Lee and people who still tend to exaggerate the success of Lee's performances. And I definitely remember you talking about how Lee was going to throw for 3-4 TDs against Tech and do well. Hell, I thought he'd do pretty good because it wasn't a big pressure game and it wasn't a very good D. I think I hoped for that though more than I believed it.

Anyway, here's what you said after the Tech game:

I hate going back because it's somewhat gay (and I have been known to be gay on occasion although I've never posted a quote that was a few months old before). But I remembered how hardcore you were about Lee. I think this quote supports my short memory or no memory comment (or the fact that I'm a loser).

As for that 2008 season, I only mentioned three of the losses to prove my point that we wouldn't have "easily" won 10 games with Lee at QB that year if our D would have been better. But since you asked, our offense scored 38 against Georgia (which Lee helped us get). Our D gave up 38. But wait...Lee gave up 14 in pick 6's (including one on the first offensive play of the game). He had three picks in all, and ultimately, it cost us the game. We lost by 14! And in the Arkansas loss, Lee didn't play. Though our offense did score 30 points with no INTS. By the way, LSU averaged 34 points in the two games he started in 2008. Our offense was better that year because we had blocking and a running game to go with it.

Our D was the biggest issue in 2008. Lee was thrown in as a RS freshman and it wasn't really his fault. He did some nice things, but made big freshman mistakes as well (as freshmen do). But I'd say Lee's pick 6's were right there with the D as our biggest issues in 2008. They killed us time and time again.

If the quality of D that Lee faces in practice is so much better than that he faced against LA Tech as you said, then why didn't he throw all over them last year? Could it be because it was an actual game where people hit you and it's not a practice where some players don't really go at it 100%? Why did he go 7-22 for 105 yards? That 31% completion rate was easily the lowest of the year for an LSU QB. The next lowest with at least 10 attempts would have been Lee again in the previous game with 40% against Bama. Jefferson's lowest of the season was 51% against Ole Miss (big difference).

I fail to see where he would be a much better prospect in any way even with a better psyche. He's not as accurate, he can't run the ball, he turns it over more, contrary to what some believe...he doesn't throw the long ball well (not recently anyway...see awful long throws against Tech with wide open receivers). What gives? Again, I admire him and hope he does great if we need him (and anything is possible), but the way a person plays in actual games does have an impact on how likely you are to play him in the future. You said it yourself that he didn't look like he wanted to be out there against Tech.

And finally, I do think our defense was pretty good last year. And I guess we were right outside the top 10 in scoring D, but I still didn't feel like our D was great because teams seemed to have such long drives on us. I don't feel that D was better than the one in 2007. I think the 2007 D played eight ranked teams (three in the top 10) compared to the four ranked teams that our 2009 team faced (two in the top 10). Also, the 2007 team played in an SEC Championship and a National Title with a win over #1. To go along with that, they were in two triple OT games where many points were scored in the OT periods. And that D was like #3 in total defense (giving up shorter drives on D).
