THATS the biggest point...CLM's new contract did not include any new monies...it was strictly a 4 year extension with I believe a 1 year option. No raise what so ever. The raise from winning the SEC or NCG was in the old and new contract. Both containing the same language as to being the 3rd highest paid coach with the win.
I heard it also raised his severance from 10 mil to 15 mil if he was to be fired before his contract ended. Not sure how accurate this was, and it really has nothing to do with his salary.
The bottom line here is that Mitch Albom is a Michigan homer who is given a pass because he wrote some very sappy but VERY SUCCESSFUL books--books I couldn't READ they were so lame, although he made a zillion from them and everyone ate them up like ALPO. So he's considered some intellectual guru, when in fact he is a laughable panderer to little old ladies and maudlin feelgood types. If he hadn't been a sports reporter, no one would have printed his book in the first place. But when it succeeded that bootstrapped him into superstar status because the rest of the sports reporting world feels like they're stepchildren to "serious" authors and journalists. I never ever like the Sports Reporters and I kick myself every time I watch it because I hope for some insight. Instead we get left/east coast bias and scorn for the game of college football in general.
At the time the agreement became public Skip Bertman indicated Miles did not use the Michigan job as leverage in the negotiations.
I sent this email to the ESPN ombudsman... will post any reply. Following is an email I have sent to Mitch Albion: Several times you have mentioned that Les Miles "leveraged" the UM position to get a "sweeter" contract. You have even questioned his integrity. Although I believe I am a relatively informed person, I am unaware of Miles new contract being in better, except perhaps for performance bonuses. Would you please tell me in what ways is Miles’ new contract better than his previous one? If there are no significant differences do you have the integrity to admit you are wrong? Thank you I have not heard from Mr. Albion. It seems that since he is so worried about integrity, and has accused Coach Miles of having none as evinced by a fat, new contract from LSU, he should either provide details of the increases or have enough integrity to admit that he is and has been wrong and that he owes Coach Miles an apology. Thank you for your time and consideration,
I don't see a big deal with this even if he did. Can't blame anyone for getting paid as much as possible for the work they do. Hell, if I could I'd do the same...:hihi::hihi::hihi:
