I agree with this. Crowton does not get a pass for 3 years of sub-mediocrity just because of one game.

I haven't changed my opinion on Crowton. I don't think he fits but sadly I thing Saturday earned him a pass. Hopefully it was a learning experience for him and he does something positive with it.

First, absolutely nowhere have I said there was no validity to Crowton criticism. If you dug in the archives you'd probably find some Crowton zingers from me. What I am saying, is that I don't agree with the fans who say Crowton should be fired. Nor do I necessarily agree that a lot of the shortcomings attributed to Crowton are actually Crowtons fault. Do I think Crowton should be fired? I think that should be Les's call. Do I think Crowton should be brought back? I think that should be Les's call.

Second: Can a majority of LSU's offensive problems over the last 3 years be laid at the QB position? I say yes.

Third: Did Crowton have tremendous QB talent that he failed to develop? No. In my view Crowton did as much as could be done with the QB material he had to work with.

Fourth: Is it Crowton's fault that LSU did not recruit an excellent passing QB who could have started in 08, 09 or 2010? Nope. Not his job. I've posted prior to this season and this season, that I lay the blame for our QB situation at the feet of Miles.

So what is Crowton's firing worthy offense exactly? I'm listening. I can be convinced LSU would be better off with another OC if the reasons are good.

Finally, you write that I "seem to think Miles is untouchable." By that you mean I think he shouldnt be fired? Hell yes. And yourself? Are you implying that you think Les can be fired?

Don't listen...read instead. See my post a few posts back.

"3 years of offensive mediocrity". That's the answer to your question, and it isn't debatable.

Les is responsible for recruiting QBs, period. If you have complaints about who we recruit at QB, knock on Les' door. That's all I'm saying. Les shouldn't be fired by a long shot, that's nuts.

So Crowton had inferior talent in Chicago to work with? At BYU? At Oregon? (Especially Dennis Dixon at Oregon) It's a coincidence that his statistical offensive production goes from top of the NCAA to bottom within 2-3 years at nearly every school he's run an offense at? (Rattay at LaTech being a single exception) It's a coincidence that those other teams exhibited the same offensive confusion? The same predictability? That is one hell of a coincidence. And I'm not buying it. Do you think we'd have any offense at all if Miles hadn't put his foot down and insisted on a running game? We'd still be throwing slow swing passes in the flat and running 4-5 deep go routes on 3rd and forever. It's a tribute to Jefferson that he made anything out of those option plays yesterday when he simply isn't built for it. As for your point about the O-line, JJ and JL have had more than adequate pass rush protection, that's not a legit excuse.

For testimonials about Gary Crowton from BYU fans, take a look and see if any of it sounds familiar:

LSU is recruiting some good young talent at QB for 2011, and we need a real QB coach and veteran OC to mold those players. Crowton has had ample opportunity to dig us out of the sub-100th ranked offense hole he's created. If we begin to show some consistency on offense, some long drives and some scoring by season's end, maybe, MAYBE, he's earned one more year. If not, <90th total offense isn't going to hack it. Especially for a team poised to make a championship run next season.

Nah it's time for Crowton to go, we should have been playing like that the entire season. I'm not going to give him a pass for being able to come up with a gameplan while having 2 weeks to prepare. I think the 2nd half was magnificent, but i don't think it was enough to save him.

What crazy calls? And seriously...let's get this out there...

Would you be totally satisfied only with a flawless season? One where LSU not only goes undefeated, but the outcome of every game in NEVER in question?

I cannot understand the mentality that LSU should just beat everybody, and look good doing it. You know, AU almost lost to a couple of teams this year...including a team that LSU beat by 3 TDs.

Sorry, but in a year where nobody expected much from LSU, and the "experts" were picking LSU 4th in the west, sitting 8-1 and 5th in the BCS in NOTHING to complain about. Maybe next season we'll be perfect enough for some of you...but I doubt it.
