Yes. Still fire him. It's his JOB to get performance from the QB position. If that hasn't been happening for the better part of 3 years, then YES, fire him.
When you are the OC, and your team ranks 93rd in offense, last year you were 112... yeah... you are gone... the aspect of your team that is holding the team back is the OFFENSE. Its all academic anyway.. Les loves him some Gary..
Look here, I love LSU and I love Les...but if you think being a REAL FAN means you cannot criticize him or the team when you feel they are making mistakes.... well that is just foolish.
Of course I am... I have been a coach... Any coach who is satisfied with how his team performs is setting them up for failure. There is ALWAYS room for improvement... especially when you are ranked 93rd in offense.
Please keep in mind CBS does a horrible, horrible, horrible job of accurately broadcasting the hype level of the crowd.
As others have pointed out, check out some of the dumbass threads posted by our "nut-job" wing of our fanbase in the past about previous offense/defense coordinators. Some of these "nut-jobs" were calling for Jimbo's head, calling for Bo's head. Am I pleased with the offense these past 3 years? No. But you can clearly lay it mostly on the QB, with an assist from the OL. Is it Crowton's fault if LSU does not recruit a top quality passer? Or has true-freshmen melt down? If LSU wins a BCS game, or god forbid, the NC, does Crowton still deserve loathing from some fans? Surely the decision should be Les's to make, without any pressure from the fans. If LSU wins a NC this year and some fans here are still bitching about firing LSU coaches, then our "fans" will take the "nut-job" definition to new heights of absurdity.
First off, all this NC talk at this point is ridiculously premature. Second, you act as though there is no validity to the Crowton criticism. It's astounding how you simply ignore his history like it has no bearing on our current situation. His offense in floating around the 100s and you want to blame that on bad QBs and an inability to recruit them. If recruiting is the problem, your beef is with Les, who you seem to think is untouchable. If bad QB play is the problem, that lies with Crowton, who IS THE ACTUAL QB COACH. Third, until we see some sort of consistency at QB, Crowton still isn't earning his keep. Most of LSU's yards against Bama came on big plays. You can't depend on that to win games every week. LSU still needs to show we can sustain long drives. For all we know we'll be right back to 100-th ranked offense form next week against ULM. Fourth, winning a BCS game means nothing in itself regarding Crowton's value to the team. LSU has won plenty of games this season on nothing but defense and special teams, and that may yet happen again.
