Since the creation of the BCS, there has been no "split" National Championship. It just can't happen except in so-called "news reports." Rather than reporting the news, the media has created the news by its invention of a "split" National Championship. There is NO SUCH THING!!!!
Not entirely true. The winner of Monday's game will be the BCS National Champion, not the NCAA. There is no official NCAA national champion in Div. I-A football, but there is one in I-AA, II and III. Technically, any national poll can crown their "national champion." It's the same reason USC can boast about their "repeat" championship, since the AP voted them #1 at the end of 03-04 when the AP was still part of the BCS, but LSU won the actual NC game.
The difference is USC was #1 in the poll before the BCSNCG in '03, so they remained #1. This year all the polls agree- #1 plays #2. End of story.
Not just the media. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPollResultsState?sportIndex=frontpage&pollId=51670 Lighten up now, it's meant in good humor.
Nothing wrong with that poll, LSU and Ohio State aren't in the discussion. One thing I do find funny about it is that USC has the edge in every state (save West Virginia) except EVERY state in the SEC. Every single state in the SEC picked Georgia. That's some conference brotherhood there
Hey if you can't win the AP national championship, it's the next best thing! Just as relevant.
I find it sorta funny that Alabama gave more support to Georgia than Georgia. You have to love the Mountaineers.
