I see both sides of the arguement with theor tie breaker
The Big XII has it set up so that the team with the best shot at a MNC wins the tiebreaker.
    Makes sense most years.
This year however, both teams would have had equal shots at the BCSCG.

The SEC says that if teams are within 5 places of each other, it reverts back to head to head.
But that could possibly allow the #6 team to go ahead of the #1 team, thus almost eliminating the SEC champ from the BCS CG

I think the head to head, especially on a neutral field trumps that. You could use comparative scores to make USL the National Champ.

    Can't have it both ways.

Ok, but how does Texas explain away their loss to TT? That's head to head right? If Texas gets the nod, TT can bitch because they beat them. This becomes a circle, and not a straight line.

Regardless, their rules are not open to either or. Follow their rules and OU goes. Personally, I could not really care less which one goes. LSU is not playing so it loses all relevance for me. But I am not a fan of coaches/programs/fans saying a rule(or lack of one) is unfair, only after it screws them.

Plus it seems to be a fire the media constantly looks for(or starts themselves) so they have something to talk about over the next month of no football.

Chances are, they didn't even know the rule existed until now, and even then, how often do you think it'll come down to two teams ranked #2 and #3?

Rarely if ever, but that is not the issue. These guys vote on the rules every year. If they can't read them, they can pay somebody to read them. It just lends itself to the whole "break your contract" because you feel like it mentality. I understand getting screwed by the rule, so just change it next year. Coaches agree to vote the BCS national champion, but didn't some of them vote USC champs in '03?

And I think if LSU were in UT's position I would be upset if we had beaten bama straight up and they went to the show instead of us. But the rules are in place for a reason. You have to stay inside the framework of a contest. Changing rules in the middle of the contest is an extremely bad precedent.

I was meaning more in regards to fans complaining.

Myself personally, I think it should be more like the SEC rules.
Maybe reduce the number from 5 places to 3 or so, but I thinkthere should be "something" in there to give the head to head result a little more weight if two teams are this close.

The Big XII never saw this coming so they didn't allow for it in the rules.
I thin that may change in the future.

Yes, there were a couple of "protest" votes by coaches as I recall in 2003.

Ahhh, I get you now. But changing rules doesn't change that. Fans are synonymous with bitchin, so we just find new things to whine about every year. And UT will bitch about this for a long time, much as LSU/USC do over '03, or Auburn over '04. No statute of limitations on whining I guess.

Next you will suggest the try their hands at defense too?

Agreed, and I am glad the angst is not with us, for a change. Living in TX, it's a bit fun to tweak the nose of my UT friends. It has taken some of the sting out of a disappointing season for us. Now, if only OU loses to Fla, then the year can be complete.
