Of course OU has to beat Florida, but if that happens and Texas crushes a non-deserving Ohio State team, we will indeed have a split championship. I didn't think OU would have a chance, but after watching them hold Missouri's offense in check, I believe they have enough defense to pull it off. Currently: 1) Florida - 1602 2) Oklahoma - 1540 3) Texas - 1530 We're only talking about 6 voters changing their minds (a little less than 10 percent). Which ultimately means that BCS does indeed stand for bull crap system.
Somehow I believe TP is gonna showcase against that Longhorn defense and at least keep it closer then a blowout. Gotta give that Texas offense the nod though, they are plenty bitter going into this one.
wont happen. Sadly Texas has become an after thought. Also if they were to beat USC maybe. But everyone expects Ohio State to get slaughtered yet again. No one will be suprised when UT hammers Ohio State. Ohio State always gets hammered when playing the big boys. Personally having seen OU three times in person (Including the OU Texas game) If OU beats Florida I dont know who anyone could say they are not the best team in College Football. Their offense is just flat out silly. They are great team.
The AP wants to be relevant in the worst way. And Texas beat OU on a neutral field by 10 and has only 1 loss like OU, so that's how someone could say they are the best team in the nation. I don't see why that would be hard to comprehend.
Last week, the AP had Texas #3 and Oklahoma #4, so I thought that if Texas and Oklahoma won out, that Texas would finish #1 in the AP. However, now the AP poll has Oklahoma #2 (9 first place votes) and Texas #3 (six first place votes), indicating that Texas has already become an after thought to the AP. Chances of a split title are much slimmer now than they were last week.
There are no split national championships possible after the creation of the BCS. You have to be in the BCS NC game to be the national champion. If you didn't make it, then it's tough luck. Being number one in the AP poll is just that--it ain't a National Championship any more.
There is no NCAA national championship. The NCAA record books list all the AP champions, all the Coaches champions, and all the BCS champions. Make of it what you will... but there is no NCAA champion. That's why people call it the Mythical National Championship (MNC). Now if the NCAA decided to grant a national champion in Div 1-A football, like they do in every other NCAA sport (by means of a playoff system), then you could say that is the "real" national champion.
There's a real good chance this thread will go to the same graveyard as "Urban Meyer's finesse offense will never work in the SEC" or "Whether Brady Quinn would be a better pro qb than Jamarcus Russell."
i know the answer to the urban meyer statement, but whats the conclusion on the quinn vs russell argument?
