Do we have enough speed on D this year? To me, we look slow from the corners to the LB's. My initial thought is that the lack of speed isn't from physical limitations as much as it is the youth not "one" with the system yet. Thoughts?
That's strange because I am extremely concerned we are way too small. I don't see a single thumper out of our LBs. The DEs have always been small, but man they have no strength to get around the edge. I can see Bama running for 350 yards on this defense.
Beckwith is pretty large. Bama is a pretender, to me, so far. A & M made them look far better than they are. Just wait. Plus, we'll be much more experienced by November. But...we must survive Athens in two weeks.
Yes, I was going to put an addendum to my post about Beckwith, but the issue is he got mop up PT vs Kent State and I don't know how much he will be part of our plans. He looked really raw last night, being overly aggressive to the point of taking himself out of the play on one or two occasions.
I think the defense is speedy enough, but some of them are slow-reacting which is why were were soft on the corners at times and vulnerable to those screen passes.
I agree, I don't question our speed one bit. It's more of being in the right places and being disciplined and being able to attack. We are not there yet.
I think the Chief will have it sorted out by the time we play UGA. Still a lot of youth and rotating players in and out.
Beckwith is a big LB. But he looked slow to me last night. I am not sold on Welter either. I think we have better, faster, options to replace him.
I don't think speed is the issue as much as a young defense still learning the scheme and having to play a step slow because of it. Beckwith was raw last night but he looks the part and he has all the intangibles to play MLB. Was surprised that we didn't see more of Rashard Robinson last night after all the props he's been getting from the coaching staff. Maybe someone has more info on that. Definitely liked what I saw from White but wondered, too, why he disappeared in the second half.
