Haven't really seen many talk about it, but our special teams in 2009 really saved our ass in a number of games and is really the X factor in the 2009 LSU tigers. I think it is safe to say that our special teams was second to none last year, but that's just my OP. How do yall think our special teams will shape up this year?
Ron Brooks and Russell Shepard returning kicks. Patrick Peterson returning punts, and i would really like to see Kardon Boone returning punts, dude has great vision returning in the film i have seen of him. Jasper coming back, Helton and Jasper punting, i think the coverage will be there, i like LSU's special teams in '10.
Jasper is really good and I think he had like an 85% FG. I also read that he hit a monster of a FG in the spring game. I look for him to have another good season. I also hope that our Special Teams continues something that we can count on in every game. Is Shepard confirmed at returning kicks? If that is so, I cannot wait to see some amazing things from him!!!
Can't remember where i read that Miles was looking at him in the kick return game, but here is a link with an article that says something about Jasper's kick. It was a 57 yarder. When i find the info on Shep i will post it. http://tigerweekly.com/article/03-31-2010/14094
I don't see Helton splitting time on Punts or Jasper splitting time on FGs. They are getting better and better. No one is confirmed on returns but Shepard will get his shot along with Petterson. We will see a few others get a shot as well until someone stands out. I think Murphy will be on every kick return as well.
I think we have a few guys honestly that can do good things for on kick returns... I guess we will see game day..
Put the ball is Shepard's hands and special things are going to happen. Unfortunately I can see the opposing teams kicking it away from him.
Although Fobbs may redshirt, he is unbelievable as a returner. Nobody kicked to him the last two years.
Jasper appears to be a very good pooch punter, so I would not be surprised to see him taking those punts from Helton. But for hangtime and distance situation - Helton is the man. No way Jasper splits FG or XP duty. Something tells me that Pat Peterson has the vision and the instincts to be awesome returning kickoffs and punts - see the seam before it's there kind of instincts. Shep may have that too, but so far he strikes me more as a make something out of nothing guy. That certainly has it's charms as well.
