There’s truth to what you say @Frogleg and we do need something to kick us in the butt. Much of the problem is the amount of energy required to get out of Earth’s gravity well. Chemical rockets won’t cut it. Maybe some incentive based challenge is needed.. We need to get to a place we can build ships outside of Earth. One thing about Elon Musk and Space X is they’re challenging the old ways of doing things. Maybe he’ll bring us out into space in a real sustainable way. While the military can do astounding development, they’re focused on what is needed to protect the US not getting away from Earth.
Good points. This whole thread has got me itching to reread Heinlein's "Starship Troopers". Also, a modern day Heinlein type author, John Scalzi's "Old Man's War' is a must read for sci-fi fans. Outstanding book.

They are making some headway on the sex robots in Japan. The cool thing is you can turn them off when you are done. The problem with this is when the female sex bots become "woke" and then kill all the men on the planet. Hopefully we have a fully functional space-station to retreat to.
