The pile driver began pounding away this morning. I'll take photos when the work rises above the ground.

I think those are just for the test piles. Gonna be a while before you see anything above grade...

Of course. But they are fenced off and working and it ain't going to stop until its built. After the season they will have to take down the south scoreboard, which is where the PA speakers are. I wonder where they will rig speakers for next season. The deck wont be ready until 2014.

You should see the underground utilities down there. It's a mess, and I get to untangle it....and then re-tangle it.:D

lol at you being the one to start this thread, given the number of times you've said it would never happen.

Around 7,500 total. About 3,000 Club Seats, 1,500 regular seats and the rest suites (about 64 suites I think). Anyway, the new addition is supposed to bring seating capacity to right at 100,000.

100,000? Will the crowd noise then go to 11?

    Glad you are amused, Gilligan.

The deck we were talking about then still hasn't happened. This is not going to be a full-height deck matching the sideline decks seamlessly. That would have added another 10-12,000 upper deck seats that would have been extremely hard to sell. It would also have blocked South Stadium Drive.

This is a smaller deck that is almost all clubseats and skyboxes, which there is a demand for. Only 1,500 "regular" seats were added to get the capacity to 100,000 and, at the insistence of a few TAF board members, these will be offered for only $20-25. In this fashion they hope not have have lots of empty seats, like we already have in OOC games.

This will not be the financial boondoggle the original upper deck plan would have been. But it is still tall enough to block more southern sunlight. I worry about the field getting enough light for good turf. Some other stadiums have been forced to artificial turf because of upper deck blockage.

I really enjoy being a part of the 100,000 club. Gives one a sense of distinction.
