and while you do not have to "respect" their service you must take into account the times in which they lived as one contributor to choices made. Where/how/who did they source information from to get informed as to the politics of the time?
In the age of 24 hr. news cycles, twitter, et al, we should remind ourselves that information traveled a bit slower if at all.

im sorry i dont buy into what you are saying, with respect. As Red, said they were drafted which changes the idea of choice for his ancestors. But plenty of people have made good and bad choices throughout history.
All that i know about Lincoln, he wasnt necessarily against slavery, but he made the right choice.
    How about John Quincy Adams
    Franklin Pierce
    Edward Bates
I could go on, but you get the picture.
These men who served in congress in the context of that time as you remarked, certainly didnt have any more information as to contributions of the choices made?
Not to accuse anyone of anything, I know the flag debate is semantics because it doesnt change history and Im not trying to forget history, however I hope no one here is suggesting that I should somehow sympathize for lack of a better word with confederate heritage?

NASCAR already had a policy which forbid the use of the Confederate flag in any official capacity at races. pride is correct here, their "restatement" of policy is to gain more customers across the country. "Obviously, we have our roots in the South, there are events in the South, it's part of our history like it is for the country," France told the AP. "But it needs to be just that, part of our history. It isn't part of our future.

"We want everybody in this country to be a NASCAR fan, and you can't do that by being insensitive in any one area."

I'll be a believer in his so-called principles when they ask attending, paying fans to remove the flag from their truck or tailgate.

    The Walmart CEO? Lol.
"Yesterday we looked to make sure we knew what we were selling," he told CNNMoney Tuesday. "To my surprise we found some [items] and decided to stop selling those products. We just don't want to sell products that make anyone uncomfortable. We want everybody to feel comfortable shopping at Walmart.....

Walmart carries more than 7 million products, McMillon added.

"It's hard to manage all of them. From time to time we're going to find items that need to be discontinued," he said. "Customers want a broad assortment, especially with e-commerce. If you pull up your mobile app to look for something at Walmart, we want you to be able to find it."

The Charleston shooting hasn't changed the company's thinking about selling firearms, however. McMillon said that store needs to continue to serve hunters.

"Our focus as it relates to firearms should be hunters and people who shoot at sporting clubs," he told CNN. "We believe in serving those customers. We have for a long time."

Hilarious. Basically, he doesn't mind offending people by selling guns and such because it's a huge $$ maker.....Confederate flags, probably a drop in the bucket, so they can go.

    I'm uncomfortable.....can they go too?

Not really, sponsors will like them better, PC. The fans that wave the flag will buy more flags. And continue to make the race. The fans that do that kind of thing.

I think it just stands for the south in most white southern people's minds today, not slavery. As Red pointed out, slavery took place under an American flag far longer than it did under a confederate one.

Some won't like it, but it won't stop 99.9 percent of them from watching is right. And I agree NASCAR is trying to gain new fans and broaden their fan base. All I'm saying is follow the money and you will usually get the answer as to what motivates corporations and politicians. Obviously, you can always find an exception to anything though. From an LSU fans perspective. Suppose they decided we could no longer be called the Tigers because the name was derived from a confederate fighting unit. I wouldn't like it, but I would still support LSU athletics the same way. They could rename them the fighting pissants and it would still be my team!! Go Pissants Go!! :)

they can learn a lot of things but dont because they tend to be stupid, unmotivated and undisciplined.

besides, you screw up a bomb and just might kill yourself.

not flying the battle flag of the army of northern virginia on state government property does not equate with "removing all things Confederate"

flying that flag is picking the scab, not honoring your ancestors.

none of that changes the fact that they came out against it, considering their customer base.
I agree with the guns comment you made.
