Many Republicans, Democrats, Independents, etc., and other politicians are simply doing what politicians do. They are basing their actions on what they perceive is politically correct at this moment in time, so that they have the best chance at retaining their job. They know that in many cases it is political suicide to take a stance on anything that could be even remotely twisted to be racist. If they are a good "politician" most will keep their mouth shut, side step the issue or weigh in on the side of the issue that gets them reelected by their particular constituency. In short, the majority of them are scared shitless to go public with an honest personal viewpoint on what their real personal feelings are if it could jeopardize their political career.
Not sure of your point. Being on the "popular" side of the issue will have more positives than negatives.
looking at the stereotypical make up of a NASCAR fan, they are more likely than not to fly the flag. I could be dead ass wrong. But wouldnt that piss some of their fans off. Thats my point.
Everybody is overreacting. It happens after traumatic events. Fine, think whatever you want. But removing all things Confederate from our life denies history. A history that nobody should be forgetting. Civil Wars leave a lot of deep scars and there are many scabs that we don't need to be picking if we have any hope of moving on.
As I said before, removing them does not change history, but it could foster better relationships for the future. When those 10k people walked across that bridge last week holding hands in South Carolina, white, black, etc. Ive never seen anything like it. It had a profound impact on me.
