American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence, nothing much. Let's rename it for someone more significant in our history. Maybe Booker T. Washington or Martin L. King, the plagiarist.
If you open that can of worms it cuts both ways. It's been said that Martin Luther King liked to beat up white prostitutes. How many of our historical leaders have some kind of skeleton in their closet. Four things you didn't know about Martin Luther King 1. His name wasn't Martin Luther. It was Michael. It was decided Martin Luther had a more prominent ring to it, so he went by that. He never legally changed his name. To this day, he lived and died as Michael King. 2. While working on his dissertation for his doctoral degree at Boston University, he heavily plagiarized from another author who had done research on a subject similar to King's. As academic committee later found that over half of King's work was plagiarized, yet would not revoke his doctrine. King was dead by this time, and the committee ruled that revoking the title would serve no purpose. It was also discovered that King's famous I HAVE A DREAM speech was also not his own. He stole it from a sermon by Archibald Carey, a popular black preacher in the 1950's. 3. King was under FBI surveillance for several years (until he died) due to his ties with communist organizations throughout the country. King accepted money from the organizations to fund his movements. In return, King had to appoint communist leaders to run certain districts of his SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), who then could project their communist ideas to larger audiences. A federal judge in the 60's ruled that the FBI files on King links to communism to remain top-secret until 2027. Senator Jesse Helms appealed to the Supreme Court in 1983 to release the files, so the correct bill in the Senate to create the Martin Luther King Federal Holiday could be abolished. He was denied. 4. One of King's closest friends, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, wrote a book in 1989 in which he talked about King's obsession with white prostitutes. King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. This has also been reported by the FBI agents who monitored King. King was married with four children. Martin Luther King Day. A day when this country will come to a screeching halt so we can have parades and memorials to honor this man, a man that most of the world views as a saint for his role in the civil rights movement. No other public holiday in the United States honors a single individual. Of all the great leaders in our Nation's history-none of them have their own holiday. All of our great war heroes share Memorial Day. All of our great presidents share President's Day. Yet king — a man who was a phony, a cheater, a traitor, and a sexual degenerate gets a day of his own. Read more at http://www.snopes.com/history/american/mlking.asp#FXJ3ifIXwusvvf13.99

They want to put a woman on the $10. Should go with Rosa Parks. The others mention were all ugly. If not Rosa than Marilyn Monroe.
Mastermind, fwiw, you've opened my eyes to some things. Some time ago what you posted about you having to teach your son about "how to grow up black in America," or something to that effect. It really caught my attn cause I'd never REALLY considered that. In fact, my initial thought was, "Dam, MM is starting to sensationalize things. I've since noticed. For one, last week I was at Academy in Laffy. I was looking at ammo and opening some boxes to look at some. There was a young black man, dressed in some kind of rough-looking clothes, early 20's, who was also looking at ammo. After I smiled at him and said, "how you doing?" to him, he asked me about the meanings of the numbers on the boxes, grain, fps, hollow point, etc. in terms of knockdown. I explained hollow points doing more tissue damage whereas solid points penetrating deeper, etc. I did it explaining what I was getting for my 357 to shoot pigs. I laughed to myself cause I wondered what was going through his head. I imagined what ran through his head was something like, "Pigs?!?! This ol white phucka does not understand I need it for protection fa real." I was truly dying to ask him what it was for. I did feel like my curiosity was, on some level, prejudicial. I admit that and couldn't help it. Not racist, prejudiced based on the fact, among other things, that most of the black people I know aren't hunters. I do make a yearly rabbit hunt and lunch in the woods with some black friends who have rabbit dogs. One is a chief of police in a nearby town. Anyway, when I said "Pigs" he reacted funny and kinda left quickly. It wasn't til later it occurred to me that he may have thought I meant cops. A few minutes later I hear a black female employee telling him he cannot open the boxes. Now, they were no longer in the ammo isle but a display case in the main isle within view from me- maybe 15 feet away. I was like, "Wow." When he walked off she was apparently irritated with him and told another store employee he was opening boxes and they can't have that. All the while, of course, I am opening boxes and never told a word. Now, I don't know if she actually saw me opening boxes but maybe because she wasn't watching me with such scrutiny. I felt like I should say something but being they were both black I let it ride instead of creating a scene. Thought for a second that John Quiñones could come around the corner.
3rd President, Thomas Jefferson, slave owner. Dr. King has a memorial statue on the other side of the Tidal Basin. In fact, they almost seem to look at one another from a distance. I was not a fan of the King memorial. It was lacking in grandeur and evoking powerful emotions, IMO
What's stupid is taking Hamilton off the $10. Pick another denomination. Hamilton was a founding father, founder of this country's financial system, 1st Secretary of the Treasury, wrote 51 of The Federalist Papers installments, one of the most influential leaders in supporting the Constitution, submitted a paper to Congress that resulted in the creation of the Mint. Of all the people to remove from money, why take the guy who was so intrinsically involved in the creation of money and it's use in this country? I think they will select Harriet Tubman before Rosa Parks but I could be wrong.
