and also, if baseball wouldn't be stupid and would have instant replay on pro and college levels like football and basketball are adopting, then it's a moot point.
Mainieri following the game: He said he couldnt tell what the umpire told him... I think the umps told him the truth and that they weren't watching the play. If that is the case, then you have to stick with the original call... If it's a guess you're making, then you have to go with the original guess... you can't change the original call unless you know for sure it's wrong. it doesn't make it suck any less, but still.
Wouldn't it essentially be a dead ball? Let's say, same situation. The UCI team runs off the field thinking he was out. The ump makes no call, eventually says he is safe. LSU clears the bases, because no one is in the infield, and the ball is off the mound. 6-5 ballgame. I would think they would just call everything back with a dead ball.
All of our discussion won't change it. LSU did fall apart whether from this or not. The umps will soon realize their error as soon as they hit their hotel rooms. Assuming we get the same umps tomorrow, it will be different. Relax, the game is ours tomorrow.
what is he supposed to do? cry and scream and curse and get fined? exactly what would that do? the series would be 1-0 all the same. the score was still 6-2 Irvine when the play happened. Yes, no one knows what could have happened, but considering their pitcher was throwing darts all day, I'd say it is around a 75% chance he gets the batter out and throws water on the flame anyway. baseball is not a game of blackjack and it shouldn't have come to that, but a rant by a manager after a 6 run loss because of an individual call doesn't make any sense.
Good thing our coaches didn't agree with you. Our thirdbase coach was so upset by the crap that was called that they threw him out of the game. As for our head coach, he also argued his ass off... as my fellow TV viewers can witness, the game went to a commercial break, and we come back and our coach was still arguing about it.
it's a good thing this was the 1st game you watched all year, b/c it was the FIRST base coach tossed... and initial reactions are one thing. It's fine to react wildly in the moment. Another animal to moan and groan in the media about it after the game. That's our job... not his.. His job is to get the boys ready for tomm and talking about being robbed today helps that cause none.
