Maybe. But the missed call by the 2nd base umpire deserves it's own thread. Bases loaded with 2 outs, but the pitcher was on the ropes and there's little doubt that this was our patented comeback inning. Ump clearly had his back to the play and guessed at the call based upon the reaction of the anteaters. Lost the game right there. I feel strongly that the streak continues but for that call. If you disagree fine, but if Paulie Pecan responds I'm going to have him killed and dumped in the Hudson.
It was a horrible call considering the umpire clearly had a poor, at best, view of the play as it happened. Sure the players sold it like crazy, but this isn't basketball where players flop at the drop of a hat for charging calls. That was a huge call to make considering we had the tying run at the plate. You just can't make that decision when there is uncertainty in your mind. Ask for help. Conference. Whatever you need to do, do it, but get the right call at that critical juncture. One thing that I fear may be lost is that UCI didn't have to bring out their top relievers except briefly in the ninth inning.. if that game remains close or LSU pulls ahead, we exhaust their top relievers which could be crucial in a three game series. So not only did that horrible missed call potentially cost us this game, but it could have a tremendous impact on the eventual outcome of this entire series. A real shame given the hard work these kids have put in. Would LSU still have won had the correct call been made? No way to tell, but clearly UCI would have had to dip into their relievers quicker and who knows what happens then not only today but tomorrow and possibly on Monday.
Did you see some of the BS calls he made? I'm sure he was fine with the call....or doesn't have good enough eye sight to see that far. Hopefully our guys will bounce back strong from this game. We were due for some bad luck and we had plenty tonight.
From those of you watching on TV, did the home plate umpire seem to be very inconsistent on his strike zone?
