I hate to be that guy, but some people I know (OU fans) went to that game in New Orleans and told me about being spit on. They have no reason to lie, and they are also a couple in their 60s, so I don't think they were provoking. And then, there's this: " + pageTitle + " Two women, LSU students, went undercover as Bama fans to see what would happen. They were spit on, cursed at and groped. That's pretty f'd up. I love my Tigers and 98% of our fans, but there is an element of violent, angry, and cruel fans (mostly dudes) that I see at every game I attend and it's a shame. Football's supposed to be fun.
Nah, Hotty Toddy takes the cake. I think the most delusional thing I read on that link was how 'classy' they think Alabama fans are. Now, there are some good Bama peeps that I've come across, but the majority of them I've seen couldn't pass for an elementary school grad, much less a UofA grad. On 2nd thought, I guess it's hard to tell the differences between them. :hihi:
Sadly, every fan base has these people. But those kind of sting operations are the journalistic equivalent of those Jay Leno "Jaywalking" segments where they ask people simple questions and show the dumb responses. Nobody knows how many people who know the answers were approached, and those people are never shown. Likewise, we don't know whether the undercover Reveille people were provoking responses or not, what footage was edited out of those videos, or the number of friendly, polite tailgates they approached that were never shown. The narrative is too easily manipulated to show only what you want to show. In short, that story smacked of everything the media today is about, which is trying to create a sensational "story".
I love beating Alabama. I can't stand the media bias in favor of them. I absolutely hate auburn period. With this being said I would never spit on any fan of another team ,even an au or gump fan. Hell I wouldn't spit on anyone at all. What kind of person would disrespect an older couple like that anyhow? It's a damn shame to hear a tiger fan acting like that. I would hope that they weren't raised like that. Any person disrespecting an opposing fan like that should be banned from games for life and have their azz wiped. I would never disrespect my team , my state , or myself by acting like that and anyone with me that did that would walk home. That's the kind of thing you would expect out of auburn or wvu fans not an LSU fan. No true LSU fan would spit on an older couple. Makes me sick.
I agree that they should be banned from games for life, but you may have a hard time finding someone to wipe their a$$es.
I read that article when it came out, and honestly, considering the Reveille articles I've read over the years, their long history of presenting subjective analysis presented as fact, and the accusations, I have a difficult time believing it. Now, I'm sure they had some people taunt and yell at them, even call them names. However, I seriously doubt that they were "spit on" numerous times or were groped by every male Tiger fan.........now, maybe some drunk came up to yell in their camera and accidentally flung some spittle in his wild display but someone walking up and literally hocking a big wad of spit on them? Multiple times. I just find it doubtful. Thats the type of adjusted facts that the Reveille uses. And groping? I don't know a single Tiger fan, young or old, who would just walk up and start groping a chick in Bama clothing. It was probably their friends who knew they were "undercover". I call BS. Now, I know that there are some "bad" Tiger fans. That, sadly, comes with the territory of 18-24 year olds, alcohol, and immaturity. I know not all trashy fans are young or students. Some of the absolute worst are much older, however most of the troublemakers are younger. Every fanbase has rabid, trashy, and immature fans and I really don't think that we have more than others. Unfortunately, however, with LSUs success in the last decade, our reputation as crazy fans, the reputation of Tiger Stadium as an amazing atmosphere for the game and tailgating, the fact that there are a few fanbases that hate us due to jealously or losses to us, and the large number of visitors we receive due to our positive attributes often being noted, we probably also have our dirty laundry aired more often.
Whipped not wiped. I officially win "dumbasz of the day award". But those fans that spit on opposing fans should have their diapers changed
