As I am walking down the aisle after the game last Saturday, I am talking with my friend about what we both see as whats wrong with the team. When this guy chimes in unsolicited & says, "The problem is that f**king ni**er quarterback we have!" Both my friend & I stopped & looked at him. All I could muster to say was "Wow, seriously? Are you being serious?" At which time he mumbled something & started talking to someone else.

I am white. My friend is white. I live in Atlanta & hang around with white people 99% of the time. I am not overly sensitive & I do not freak out when I hear racial slurs most of the time, but to me, this was insanely over the line. In a stadium of LSU fans, for someone to bust into a conversation & make a clearly racist statement like that, I was shocked. I was actually glad that there were no Florida fans within earshot because I wouldn't want any of them to go back to G-ville & tell their friends what they heard in my section.

Looking back, I should have grilled the guy. I should have asked him if he found the play of the white players acceptable. I should have asked if the white QB who has trouble throwing to LSU recievers was a better option. I should have asked him where he put his hood & burning cross during the game.

I know LSU pulls in people from all parts & of all types, but I have to wonder how some people can actually function in society with a core set of beliefs like this.

there are always people who think a white qb will do better and they probably don't make it known as a main point of their argument but it's true.

i sat in front of some guy for like two weeks in a row in the student section when herb tyler was the qb.

if herb threw an incompletion you could hear his deep cajun accent "put in sparacino!!"

it ended up being an inside joke for me and my friends for the rest of college (and honestly when JR was qb b/c of how hard people were on him sometimes)

i think we even said it once this year when JJ was a little off. I'm pulling for JJ and want him to do well. in college football i have two basic beliefs for offense and defense:

    1) that a defense should always pressure the qb b/c there aren't many coll. qb's that can handle constant pressure and not make mistakes.

    2) a mobile qb that can actually throw well is a killer.

now there are people who will absolutely disagree about #2 and will always want a pocket passer and that's fine in the pros imo, but in college i think you end up spreading out the D even more with a mobile qb and there's always a threat to run. we're not really using JJ properly right now, but the potential is there.

as for the racist remarks, some people are just like that.

Goes both ways, though. Bottomline is that's what you get when stupid people have no other recourse than to blame someone because of skin color.

Unfortunately I run across more people like that than I can count. Some would say it for shock value, but for some this is absolutely their way of thinking.

Dumb rednecks will be dumb rednecks. In my opinion it doesn't even warrant a response. It's best that you didn't engage with his dumb ass. You can't change what he's been taught his entire life in a 2 minute exchange in Tiger Stadium. This is the deep south. I'm afraid that kind of ignorance will be here for quite some time.

HA! I thought you were describing me until you said he had a deep cajun accent. When I was in school I used to yell "Put in Sparacino!" and "SPA-RA-CI-NO! *clap* *clap* *clap clap clap*" Of course, I did it in the 4th quarter when games were so comically out of hand, the student section was nearly empty, & we were grasping for anything to get a spark going. It had nothing to do with Herb Tyler or his race.

But, as for the color of a QBs skin, I don't care if he is black, white, red, yellow, or green. If he is effective, that's all I want.

    Why not?

It goes both ways, people want black QBs for the same reason.
Its unfortunate that someone would just blurt that out about a Tiger, its probably on the level of people booing J.Lee last year. Both disgusting.

My guess is some people like to ignore the elephant in the room.

Because its a red neck mentality that we know exists from the lowest common denominator of human beings. I've heard it so many times I just ignore the fools.

Yes, I like to ignore ignorance. This is true.

    correct.

I work with a guy (white dude)
who is absolutely in love with black QBs.
To him they are simpley more talented and athletic. And a white QB is incapable of being anything other than a pocket passer.

my boss on the other hand (another white dude) absolutely hates black QBs.
they ain't smart enough, and run around too much instead of sitting back and picking apart defenses.

both are wrong more often than they are right
