Now you're putting me on the spot when all I'm trying to do is go "downdaboatshow", hon. My real point is that I don't think anything can be discerned by looking at a coach's face on the sideline. Miles does wear a headset on the sideline. I bet that the "blank stare" described, might actually be the result of Miles actually listening to what his assistant coaches on the other end might be saying. When someone is talking to me on a cell phone and I am listening to what they are saying, I'm guessing I might have a blank stare. I hope that does not put my job in jeopardy!
I watch him during the timeouts at the games. He is very animated with the team and is definitely not as described by the thread started.
Actually I don't care if the camera happens to catch Miles with a blank look, picking his nose, or scratching some place he shouldn't be. I DO care about the product he is putting on the field. Right now that doesn't look very good.
But when the whistle blows at the end of a quarter and the coach asks what's going on cause he doesn't realize a quarter just wound down it does reinforce the "deer in the headlights" theory. Not saying it IS but things like this over the years do perpetuate the "perspective". Remember the "I'M THE COACH" one? The end of the first half for the SECCG and then vs. Georgia? 50 yard FG attempt vs. Arky, I think it was. Many opportunities squandered.
I'm not sure if this pic negates or supports the OP's statement about how "he seems out of place." I mean, what head coach proposes to a ref?
I actually thought he was quite a bit MORE animated during this game. he got on the officials pretty hard about the offsides calls.
